Using a Custom J/B as a playing cue?

I've been looking for a Custom J/b to buy, Most likely after Christmas has passed.

Now I know alot of people who have Gilbert J/b's say you can use them as a playing cue also. And they play just as good as the regular Gilbert cues.

Can this be said about other custom JB cues? Or is a Gilbert just a special case of this?

I've been looking at a Mace j/b and just using it as a playing cue, expecially if I hafta fly to Vegas, I'd rather just tote around one cue than a bunch of cues.

Any info would help.

Also can anyone give me the specs on a Mace JB shaft? is it just a 13mm or is it bigger?

They play very well, I have two of them. One is an older mace and the other is about 2 years old. Rick will prepare the shaft any way you want, also an extra shaft is 125$. He is a great guy that will work with you. If you are looking for a used one my newer one is for sale. pm me if you are interested.

I have a friend who had one made by Rick Howard, and it breaks very nice! its 19.7 but feels more like a 18oz.

And from what i heard he had the shaft turned down to 13mm too, and went with a cocobolo handle instead of a wrap.

All in all i heard it cost him about 500$ for everything.

But i can live with a plain jane Mace jb to play with.
