Using OB-1 shaft to break

I tried searching for the answer, but I can't seem to find it for the life of me.

I'm thinking about picking up a new cue with an OB-1 shaft, and I was wondering if it can be used to break 9/10-ball racks.

Anyone have any input on this?

Thanks in advance.

Absolutely!!!

As long as your not bending the shaft on the table during your follow through you can break with it till the end of time...

It probably will affect your tip longevity/performance but thats another story altogether...

I used to use my OB-1 to break and I ended up popping a tip off. It happened in a poorly lit bar and I couldnt find the tip anywhere, and since the carbon fiber pad went with it I ended up with an issue.

No one around here had the pads, so I sent it to OB cues for repair. It cost a fair bit to ship and UPS ended up losing it. Eventually I got a partial refund and the guys at OB-1 sent me a new one and were absolutely awesome about the whole thing.

The shaft itself held up perfectly, and I have never had a problem since. So from my experience, if you have access to someone who can repair a tip/pad just in case, I would say you have nothing to worry about. Since I don't, I dont use it to break anymore. If you ever do have issues, let me say again, Royce and co. are first rate with their customer service.

I asked Royce about breaking with my OB-1 and he said it would hold up fine. but there is a possibility of the end of the ferrule to mushroom a bit.

I dunno, I might just start breaking with mine.
