Just received my cue and it has a 1/4 ding in the forearm. Do I need any paperwork from the sender or can I just go in to the post office? Thx, John

i have been dealing with this same issue for a while now, and there are some catches....

I had a cue arrive all dinged up, and the box was also damaged. I contacted the USPS and they told me I needed to get with the seller, pay to ship the cue back, and that he had to file the claim. So I took a bunch of photos, and mailed it back.
The seller got it back and attempted to file a claim, and they would reimburse him for the insured value, and he could refund me, but they would keep the cue. Instead the seller and I agreed to get the maker to refinish it, and he would send it out as soon as it was done..... that was 6 mos ago.....

so, bottom line... Only the shipper can file the claim.

and let me know how it works out....

The maker was the shipper, so that limits the number of people involved. Thanks for the info, John

6 months is a long time.....

I had purchased an OB-2 shaft and it arrived with the package obviously damaged. It was stamped "damaged in shipment". I went to my local Post Office and was told that I had to either ship it back to the sender so that he could file a claim, or that I could file a claim but had to have the shipper send me the Post Office insurance receipt. Since it was easier for the shipper to send me the receipt, that's what I did. The whole process took about two months before I received payment from the Post Office.
