I found a really nice Valley bar table with coin op. that I can buy really low. Problem........it has a plywood playing surface. Could it have come from valley like this? Can a slate be put back on it?

Thanks for your input!

No Valley pool table has ever come out of the Valley plant with a plywood playing surface. I would guess that somewhere in the past the slate to that table got broke, and someone replaced it with plywood. It must be a 3 x 7 Valley, as that table comes with a 3/4" slate. Yes, you can put a slate in that table if you can find one, but beware the slate can cost as much as the table or more with shipping.

You might want to check with this outfit:

http://www.lakesidebilliardsupply.com/pooltableslate.html

as they sell k-pattern slates, as well as a lot of Valley parts, and they may be able to advise you about replacement slate for your table. If a K-pattern fits, you might be able to find a distributor in your area, and save on shipping (you've already got a truck to pick it up with).

New slate, rubber, and cloth is going to run $750-800, so you would really have to getting the frame cheap to make it worth it.

I'd check with a vendor in your area first, to see if there's any chance they have a junk Valley or Dynamo table that they'd sell for a few hundred buck, take the slate out of that table and put it in the one you're thinking about buying...before you purchase the table.
