Valley Bar Table

I am looking for advice on purchasing a Valley barbox to insert into my basement. First off, what should i be looking for in terms of quality? I always see these go up on craigslist for 6 - 800$ or so around here.

The other question is: What should i be planning on doing when moving the table into my basement? The table is a one piece slate. Is it possible to remove the slate, legs, and rails to ease the move then install them altogether? My basement is pretty straight forward/ one flight of steps straight down then a 90 into the room. i dont think clearance will be a problem. Should i be hiring a mechanic to strip down/set up? is this a stupid question?

Thanks,

Bar boxes are pretty easy to move. Remove the rails, lift the slate out, remove the legs, and away you go. Assembly is just as easy. Good luck in your quest.

The large "box" section doesnt come apart other than removing the legs. It may not make the 90deg turn at the bottom of the steps. Do some measuring before spending

Table

Valley bartables are junk! The slate support system is whack! The table frame is made up of mostly MDF board. There trash! Unless your looking for a throw away table or don't care about it playing like crap conpared to a real pool table
Only my opinion' I have worked on a few or two "throw away" bar boxes and its the same ol' problems time after time..the elements set in and gravity wins the race..
Would you buy mdf board cabinets for your kitchen that you want to out last many generations? I'm sure you all have seen the cheap tv entertainment centers that have some type of header over top of the tv insert, and as soon as you but a nicnac on top for a few days it swaybacks "concave" more and more... mdf boad can't take a beating for all the years in use on a pool table. A lot has to do with how it's attached/fitted together. And it's kinda obvious of how well press fiber wood holds together under loads of continue beatings.
