Variant on dust collection box

Just finished this up yesterday.. Wanted to share it in hopes that it will help someone.

I used some scrap 1/8 masonite to build it.. It bolts to the tool carriage just as a tool post does.. Despite the through holes being too big, it works great!

I would say it pulls out 90% and pretty damn near 100% when I tape up the gaps.. The actual dust collector is a one of the small jobs from HF.

I just finished a second one today to be used with the taper bars, as my first one did not allow room for the guide bearing behind the carriage..

The hose is suspended from a pulley and cable system mounted from the ceiling above my lathe which allows it to travel freely with the tool carriage.

Hope this helps!
Cheers

Looks great, don't worry about the wide holes too much. It has to have a good intake flow for it to work, and still have a reasonable amount of movement to fit the wood you are turning. If debris is shooting out, then get some 3" long or so, by 3 inch wide paint brushes, cutoff the handles, and screw the brush part across the holes, one close to you and the other close to the taper bar, and meet them in the middle. It will trap and hold the debris from flying out, but still be very flexible to follow the shape of the wood, and fit a wide range of diameters.
