Varney - the oldest possible curly - j/b for Mel Smog

Varney Cues

Here is what is actually a BLEM cue. I occasionally have built a few of these over the years and they are a huge hit & I'm always getting asked for more. What it is exactly is wood that has some blemishes or isn't top shelf with the figure....yet has 100% of Varney performance...priced with a blemish discount. This is one I was going to list as a Black Friday special but AZ'er Mel Smog bought the cue sight unseen before I even got it listed for sale. This is really a pretty trick little j/b...the forearm is curly maple that is what some call "lakewood". Its been under water for several hundred years making it the oldest possible curly maple available. What you see is the natural color of the lake wood...no stain or color added. I used this piece on the blem due to the fact that the curly wasn't really stellar...now that its complete it looks better than I expected. This is a hand rubbed satin finish that will allow the wood to develop a nice patina that will enhance the figure over time. The shaft although it looks fine in the pics, is a blem as well with some dark sugar marks that wouldn't allow me to use it on a premium cue. Mel Smog I hope you enjoy the cue...thank you so much for your business. :)

Boy, that's not something I see from a lot of cuemakers nowadays! Nice touch on this one Kevin!!!

Thanks Jason. I really like the look of when that blueish old age patina develops and settles into the curls. Makes a trick antique look. :)

Varney J/B's ARE the Best Period

I play with my Varney 4pt. purple heart j/b and my Varney 4pt. boco/maple player everyday now. I just bought a Whitten 2x4 to carry them in. You can't go wrong with Kevin's cues. They are the best I have ever played with. I am seriously thinking about having my name engraved on the butts, because mine will never be for sale.

received the cue today, it is even prettier in person
cannot wait to hit ball with it, too bad have 2 more finals this week
