Just recieved a Varney cue from(tbayplayer)Ryan, which was a flawless transaction in every way.The cue was the one with the great birdseye and purpleheart handle which was dyed black. Now the weird thing is I just got it today and have not hit a ball with it yet ,but my buddy is looking for a player not just a showpiece that people can see at tounaments. So I told him I was getting this cue and he could try it out and tell me what he thought.I stayed in with the kids tonight and he came over and took the cue for 1hour.Now this guy has played with tons of predators(mainly ones I've sold him)along with Southwest,Mezz ,Schons and alot more. His comments were that something about the cue was "Magic".He found the hit was so tight and strong he was lost for words.Potting balls were just robotic with the cue and the way Varneys shaft was the perfect taper.Last but not least he wanted to buy it and that wasn't happening since I want to play with it.My opinions about the looks are as follows
1)fit and finish were very very good and glossy and the shafts fit snug.
2)The woods including shaft wood were awesome, that would contribute to the great hit I would think.
3)Balance is using the woods as there is no weight bolt which makes it natural.
4)Shafts were as straight as an arrow. No rolls ,taper rolls,or jelly rolls. As far as Ive heard and now seen,Kevin knows not just how to build a cue,but has zoned in on what Top tier cue should play like without giving up a kidney to get one.I know some people might read this and think I haven"t even played with it yet but let me tell you,my buddy is a great shot and is as picky as I am,maybe more.If he says its great,I take his word for it.Thanks again Ryan for the sale and thanks to Kevin for building it!Takecare guys.

I have owned several Varney cues and each one of them has been special, they play great, i mean really great.

Did your friend play with the ob classic shaft?

They play Jam up...you will not be disappointed. Get out and hit some balls with it and you will see. Kevin makes them to play with not for looks..I have 3 of them and not 1 complaint , except I dont use the one at all ...But thats cause Im so used to my main player and the one he made me for bar leagues but thats on me but they play alike both of the players ,,,ED

Which shaft was your buddy using, kevins or the OB classic? that's a sharp looking cue for sure. i hope you're as happy with it as your buddy was

Thanks guys!

I thought I'd give my buddy a call before I left for work and ask him what shaft he used.I know he hates shafts that deflect alot and we both do the same test on cues.We put the object ball on the headspot and the cueball right in the middle of the breakline. Now by using extreme inside english pot the object ball in either of the corner pockets and come around 3 rails back to you.Now we both find that the most shot avoided by alot of players from amateur to pro is using extreme inside english cause alot of shafts seem to buckle on that shot.Well he said he tryed both the shafts. He never really liked the Ob1 shafts but said the OB Classic was far beyond the Ob1 and thought it deflected the same as a Predator maybe less and felt way more solid. As for the Varney shaft,I know he likes LD shafts more than just maple but he said the Varney hit much stiffer than a Schon shaft and had very little deflection at all, which really suprised him.He thought the whole cue played outstanding with either shafts and knew right away that the cue builder is definitley a player to.Now I personally believe that the tip you put on your cue is the most important part of the cues playability.I find certain tips can compliment your cues playability while another tip will make it feel terrible.Ryan had compressed triangles put on both the shafts, and seems to be the right tips for this cue,but I'm still stuck on medium Morri's for my tip of choice.I'll be playing with this cue soon and hopefully my buddy didn't extract all of it's Mojo:eek::wink:Take care

Finally!The Mojo was still there!

:smile:Got a chance to hit with it today. My God what a hit. This stick truly compliments my game and is in a league of its own.I've commented on the main forum but thought I should do it here as well.Anybody that has been affraid to stray from the Predator, will be in for a shock and a half when they hit with one of Kevins cues.To me the shaft plays a huge part of course but I am a firm believer the butt is also a huge part to the hit.Like anything else that is great in life a solid foundation is needed and in this case the butt is an essenetial foundation to compliment the shafts performance. If I could ship this cue around to the guys on AZ to hit with,I truly believe Kevin would have enough cue orders to last him till he was 103 years old.Do your game a favor and get one!Takecare Guys:thumbup2:
