Well as I sit here making my calender for 2010 I wonder about my may trip. Vegas baby!!!! So I was already thinking of all my self made tips for making the trip and not going broke and not playing hungover and... and... and...

So what is everyones little secret for making the trip as good as it can be?

Mine is Buffet's, dont forget the RIO.

Gotta love the seafood buffet at the Rio.Yum Yum .:grin:

I love the buffet at Harrahs, so much variety and it tastes great. Although I'm not a big crab leg fan....most of the time we go just before 4PM when they roll out the crab legs :grin:
 
Do you gift/t-shirt shopping at the Walgreen to the south of the Riveria, (short walk) as it has DEALS....
 
i made the trip over from the uk last year and can i say it was an endurence BUT vegas is vegas u dont feel the strain till u get home lol took me about 3 weeks to get over it !

i went for the whole event and i along with 20 other players from the uk have been booked up since augest 2009 to make the trip over the pond again, we fly out may 9th and reture may 23rd

probably the best event i ever played in !!!

Take two...

Take two days that is... I have been going to vegas for the tourn. since 1994. I have found that if you will take an extra day or two before the tournaments start so that you can fully enjoy vegas, then the trip and experience is more fulfilling. I usually go 3-4 days early so I can see the shows I want to see that year and of course gamble and DRINk..Then I take the day off before the tournament to recover and refresh myself. And then watch out world..lol
 
Must agree! The one extra day is worth every penny it costs for the room. We drove in from Modesto, CA; about an eight hour trip. Even though the trip went pretty fast, it was good just to be able to relax for an entire day, then get serious about pool!

For those of you who have never been there, I must say that the first time I walked into the "Gameroom" and saw 125 DIAMOND tables set up in lines, I got the "RUSH" of my life! Then, I went next door to the next room and saw 120 MORE tables! Absolutely one of the best pool happenings of my entire life.

Expensive 10 days, but worth every cent, AT LEAST ONCE!
 
Stay away from the buffets the night before you have to play early or you'll be spending alot of time uncomfortable having to #2 before/during/after your match. Or just don't gorge yourself, but hard not to at buffets...
 
I have some random tips for vegas, though they don't really pertain to pool.

1. Don't try to hail a cab unless you're in a loading zone. Cabbies can't pick you up off the side of the street, it's illegal, though some will if you wave money at them or have hot female friends with you.

2. Know where you're going and how to get there. This again pertains to cabbies as they'll try and take you on crazy trips across town to ring up your fare.

2. Vegas runs off of tips. When you're on a casino floor and your drink service is slower than molasses, consider how much you're tipping the waittress. Sure, the drinks might be free while you're gambling, but if you slip her a 5 or a 10, you'll get'em a lot more quickly than if you're just giving her a buck a drink. Need to get somewhere fast? When you get in the cab, let him know there's an extra $20 in it for him if you get there on time. Want to get into a certain club? Have a little extra cash ready for the guy at the door.

4. Don't hit on 20. I've seen some pretty stupid plays while at the tables. If you're unfamiliar with how a game works, either watch for a while until you feel you've gotten the hang of it or take one of the free lessons that the casinos give to orient you with table games. Don't just dive into a game thinking you'll be alright, at least go in with a fighting chance.

4. Hunt around for deals. Vegas is filled with deals if you just look for them. Search online for coupons, you can even find tickets and coupons on ebay that can save you a lot of cash. There's also a place called Tix4Tonight that sells discounted tickets to most of the available shows in town, along with discounted dinner reservations as well. One of their locations is next to M&M world, IIRC, but they have other spots as well.

5. The monorail can save you cash. Instead of taking a cab everywhere, which can get expensive, buy an all day monorail pass if you know you'll be traveling a lot that day. The monorail basically runs from one end of the strip to the other and has drop-off points at various casinos.

6. Know when to quit. When I'm at the tables I have a hard time with this one, as it seems to me that if I've done this well so far, there's no reason why I can't keep doing this well. If that were true, casinos would go out of business rather quick. Have some sort of rule that if you've doubled your money, or lost half of your money, walk away. Your winning streak can't last all night, and conversely, your wallet only has so much money in it to begin with. Know when to pack it up and go seek your fortune elsewhere.
 
Vegas Native...

Being born and raised in Vegas and spending ample time on the Strip, I can tell you that your better off finding your deals in the hotels/casinos just "off the strip". If your looking for a nice hotel with decent prices and only a few minute drive from the Rivera... try The Gold Coast, Palace Station (my favorite) The Orleans is a good one too. They also run great specials at the restaurants and some of them have quite a few restaurants to choose from ;-)
As for food... same thing, get off the strip, unless your eating a buffet.
There is an In N Out burger right across the street from Palace Station and another on the southern side of the strip just off the 15 and Tropicana. (I'm a sucker for In N Out)
There are TONS of great Ethnic restaurants (Asian, Greek, Italian etc.) right on Sahara, just west of Las Vegas Blvd. in a little strip mall and as you keep traveling west there are even more just passed the Palace Station (on Sahara) on the left hand side.
Someone mentioned earlier about coupons... SO true! Look em up online and USE them!

And for POOL play... (because I'm bias:) There is Pool Sharks (pool hall) at 3650 S. Decatur Blvd. 89103 (702) 222 1011
If you would like a place to practice that is away from the tournament and a friendly environment... they are only a short drive from the Riviera also! They have 7ft. diamonds as well as 9ft diamonds and they just added a few 9ft Gold Crown's also! They have decent rates and great pool specials... just inquire within or call beforehand :)

AND... if anyone has a question about anything in Vegas, feel free to ask me :) I don't gamble in the casinos, never did, so I can't help you there But anything else... I will do my best :)

Even better than the monorail (IMO) is the double decker buses that run up and down the strip.

NOTE: If while walking up or down the strip a super hot girl half out of her mini skirt in high heels walking buy makes eye contact and says "hi cutie"......she does not (really) think you are cute...:rolleyes:

Winning $$$$ in Vegas goes hand in hand with drinking.....the more you win.....the better you look....;)
