Mickey's cue & brew

hi, go to Mickey's cue & brew on corner of eastern & warm springs, they have a few tornaments each week...very clean and nice place to play..tell them Jeff from Ct. told you about the place....gl

Almer,

Big table pool is Monday's at Pool Sharks on South Decatur near Spring Mountain Road. Tuesday is the Cue Club on East Sahara. Wednesday is Mickey's on South Eastern at Warm Springs Road. Thursdays back at the Cue Club.

Bar box events are hit and miss. Stop by Rum Runners on East Tropicana at Spencer. One of the bartenders may know of upcoming events. I believe the Friday night tournament at Dealers Choice on Spring Mountain Road has been shut down. Give them a call though. Lots of local bars have no entry fee tournaments on the weekend. Pay out 40/30/20/10. Lots of competition.

If you want some action, evenings ask for "Thumbs" at Pool Sharks or Greg Kuhl at the Cue Club. They'll steer you straight. Not sure who's running things at Mickey's.

Where did you buy? Be glad to give you directions. To bad you're leaving on the 10th. I get there on the 12th for two weeks.

Is Crystal Palace Billiards still around? I had a funny situation happen there like 20 years ago. It was supposed to be the big place in LV at the time....

Last time I drove by, the entire mini plaza it is located in was under re-construction. There were no cars out front. No lights on inside. Windows are tinted so my conclusion may be in error. Not a "safe" neighborhood for visitors. Don't know anyone playing there anymore. Some of the Hispanics who played there are now at the Cue Club. Henry purchased a second Billiard table. Both tables are filled most days by CP's old crowd.

Thanks for the info Lyn. Ya, I remember around 20 years ago, I was around 18 and went with my parents to Vegas and they were a little nervous about leaving me there by myself. The surrounding area wasn't super vistor friendly and this was back then. But my local pool hall owner in Portland told me that if I wanted action that Crystal Palace was the place to go.

Within a half hour this kid in his younger 20's who walked with a cane comes in and we start playing 9 ball, races to 3 for $5. At one point he tells me that the place is full of hustlers and I should watch out who I play. And I say "oh ya?" and he says "Ya, because I'm a hustler". I almost started laughing. Seriously. Then he asks if I want to up the bet to $10. I wanted to ask him if it would be smart for me to up the bet against a declared "hustler" but decide against this. I say 'sure' and an hour later I'm up like $50. He leans over and whispers something to his girlfriend and she leaves. After some small talk for a minute he says "well, I gotta go...". He throws some odd number like $28 on the table and says "I've get to get the rest from my 'roll' in the car. My girlfriend is bringing it up." I thought he meant she was bringing up the bankroll, but instead this car pulls up by the front door. He starts walking with his heavy limp towards the door and at this point I'm starting to realize all might not be cool. I was only 18 and had never had anyone stiff me before. Then as soon as he clears the door, there is only like 6 feet to the car....he could have just kept the same pace, he was too far away for me to try to run down. But like the scene in TCOM where Eddie is slapping Vincent around until they get outside the hall and then high tail it to the car, this guy starts speed limping/caning to the car, jumps in and he is in such a hurry I see his cane get slammed in the door as he is trying to slam it shut. The door pops open, I see this cane yanked back in car and they peel out of there, screeching tires and everything.

At first I just stared, trying to take it all in. My first reaction was "I just got ripped off". Then the comedy of the scene started to settle in. Then my last thought actually made me start laughing out loud. I realized "That guy wasn't lying, he really IS a hustler! " It was awesome and made for a good story back home.
