Ver Cool Find!!!! Billiards News Paper From 1875!!!!

Here is an amazing piece of billiards history. Its a news paper called "The Billiard Cue" from 1875, it was printed in New York. i actually stumbled on it on ebay and scooped it up, it discusses everything billiard related back in the day.From new rooms that have opened to tournament results to a price guide for cues tips and table parts ( they have Simionis cloth listed at 8.00$ a yard.. lol!!!) I Guess you can say this was the first Billiards Digest.

There were actually 4 pocket tables back then. Some of the mechanics now would die if they had to change a 6 pocket table to a carom table at the price they charged back in the day.

I'm amazed at how expensive (in 1875 dollars) some of this stuff was, compared to today's prices...If you did the math in 2015 dollars, I doubt many of us could afford to play at all...

$1 in 1875 = $21.62 today...so, a $40 set of pool balls in 1875 would cost you $864.80! That's twice what a set of Centennials would set you back. So playing pool with our standard of equipment is only half as expensive on average as it was 150 years ago. Probably not good for the industry, but more folks can actually afford to buy cues and tables than back then.

That paper is in amazing condition. Only 140 years old.

You gotta love vintage anything but especially billiards. It was a gentleman's game then.
