Very personal John Morra interview

Very revealing about John. A poor interview by the woman bc she talked more about herself than letting John reveal more about himself - she makes the classic interviewer mistake - it is supposed to be about him not her.
However, John seems to have overcome much to get himself on a better path in life. I just don’t know how pool can provide a lifetime career financially for him at this stage of his life - I doubt that pool can do that for him. So many players who were great at a young age really struggled in life bc the game itself provided little opportunity for a true lifetime career - it is just not that rewarding a game financially for the great, great majority.

John has, indeed, overcome many obstacles in his life and it's tough not to be impressed.

He's easy to root for, but he's in that gray area as far as making money at pool. In 2023, he finished the year ranked 38th on the AZB money list and, based on Fargo, he is the world's 64th best player. His tournament winnings were $54,000 and even if he has decent sponsorship, there can't be too much left over after expenses.

John may be good enough to win something pretty big. He did, after all, come second at the Derby City 9-ball twice, losing double hill to SVB and double hill to Melling. My sense of things, though, is that he's not capable of winning a major, but I hope I'm wrong.

Prize money in pool is growing, however, and as long as that continues, John may do quite well down the road. Wish him well.

You can say the same of most top pool players. Very few get to win multiple events and titles. All of them, like John, have tremendous heart and drive.
