Veterans...Thank you~!

This may be a bit early, but Happy Veterans day to all who have served. We are grateful...

Thx. Nice to be remembered. Just read somewhere that we're about one-percent of the population, which figures out to be about three and 1/2 million of us and diminishing annually.

Thank you for a debt none of us can repay.

I have many patients who are veterans. The seen scars some return with. The unseen scars ALL return with. All. Literally all.

This is the greatest country on planet earth with freedom that is unparalleled, only possible because we have the biggest group of badasses who stay on the ready.

Thank

You

All day long my thoughts kept returning to our veterans, and how we might best properly show them respect and honor. The term "homeless veteran" haunted me. This is a term that should not exist. The VA facility here once included a large domiciliary program which housed and cared for hundreds of veterans for many years. I always wondered what happened to the veterans when it was shut down.

Every one of our veterans is "aging" and their housing and care deserve to be given the utmost priority.

Tunnels to Towers is working on that...buying and renovating hotels...so far, they have housed 8,100 homeless vets. The director of T2T appeared on Fox's "The five" today, explaining the program.

Personally, my dad's brothers both served...one a B-17 pilot in Europe, the other a communications officer in the Pacific. All 3 went to sign up after Pearl Harbor. Dad had a Turkey ranch. He was told to keep raising Turkeys for Uncle Sam. Me? Flunked the physical in 1964.

An honor meeting for me? There was an old guy who liked spending time in Salem, Oregon's "Cue Ball" hall...the real life Sgt. Don Malarkey of "Band of Brothers" fame. That miniseries was probably closer to the historical truth than anything ever done on WWII. Don told me is was mostly true, but to his knowledge, nobody in Easy Company ever saw a concentration camp. He does say they were the first atop Hitler's Eagle's nest.

(edit) One fun Don Malarkey story. Don mentioned he'd been to Omaha for a reunion & book signing. He then in his 80's, I aked how he handled the airport hassles. He said he didn't have to. Tom Hanks sent his jet to pick Don up.

Don passed in 2017...all of Easy company is back together now. Our loss...:(
