I was hoping it would get posted this week the results from the events at VF. It would be nice to know the top 10 from each event, including the Artistic event. Anyone know the results? or if they plan on posting the results to their webpage?

Thanks.

I agree- results are needed!

Hopkins? Hopkins? Hopkins?

I sent an email to SBE asking that all the results be posted. That was Monday and I haven't heard a word back and actually don't expect to.

Allen is all about the cash...he got what he wanted. All this guy will ever do is take from pool he will NEVER give back.

I will be posting the results for the Artistic Event at Valley Forge, and also the Artistic Event in Southington, CT (the prior week) on my website tonight (www.andysegal.com).

You can check tomorrow morning.

I'm sorry but I don't have the results from any of the other events.

Why do you say that, El Nino?

How many pros can you name who have given back to the sport of pool? Excluding Grady Mathews, Pat Fleming, and Billy Incardona, I can think of none off the top of my head. Plenty of players came to the Expo to gamble -- and many made out very well. How many of them would have been willing to devote the time and energy to put on such an event.

Did you say "DEVOTE" I wouldn't call (1015 players at $75 each with a top prize payout of $5000) devoting anything. He should be wearing a sky mask pulling off that kind of heist.

Allen Hopkins

Okay, I'm not exactly sure what the evidence is but I am interested...

What exactly is the issue with Allen Hopkins?

Is there any other evidence besides the most recent Players Championship to accuse him of being a person who is only "for the cash"?

I'm not persuaded or dissuaded; I simply desire to know everybody's opinions.

Maybe he had a lot of overhead?

Alright, let's look at this rationally.

First place = 5,000
Second place = probably half, so 2,500
3-4 = about 1,500
5-8 = about 1,250
9-16 = 1,000 (I'm absolutely sure about this because it's what my friend got for finishing at this place)
17-32 = about 500
33-64 = about 200
65-128 = probably got their entry fee back (I'm almost positive)

Total payout, even though I did estimate some here = 42,000

This is a payout of approximately 55%, which is pretty good considering Hopkins has to rent all of those tables and one of the most expensive convention centers in Pennsylvania.

Plus, back to your original statement about giving back, what better way to promote the advancement of pool than to hold an open amateur tournament, a kid's tournament, and a seniors tournament with so many entrants. Hopkins has produced the best thing going for pool.

I guess to summarize, Hopkins also has to make a little bit to have the incentive to do it year after year.

Would he have to book a loss on the expo to be viewed as "giving back" to the pool community?

Besides, looking at it conversely, what has he "taken" from the pool community. He earned all the titles he won. And he was intelligent enough to find a way to earn a living at this sport after his best playing days were over. Give the guy a break.

Once again, I need to point out that the tournament entry was only $50. the other $25 was for a 4-day Expo pass.

Plus, Allen did not raise the cost to get into the Expo this year even though it was an extra day and he had to pay the Expo Center for that extra day of all the equipment/tables/chairs/curtains/floor rentals.

And he had to pay Diamond for another day of FREE Smart table use for 144 tables.

I think if some one can do a better job, they should step up.

Any one who runs an event, like the expo, deserves to make some money at it. For what you get, it is a bargain.

Not for nothin',,, but Allen has created an event where ANYONE in the industry can come and make money. Speaking as an EXHIBITOR at the Hopkins show since the early 1990's... this event has grown our business, created an excellent opportunity for us to make a lot of money. ALL of the exhibitors make money and grow their businesses at the Hopkins show or they would not come back every year.

In every other industry... sports, computers, health care, retail, sales, marketing, education.... people are making money for the work they do. They create jobs for other people, they create products that make our lives better, and they make $$$$ doing it! That's what Allen is doing. WHY CAN"T PEOPLE IN POOL MAKE MONEY????

The bottom line is this... Allen is not a philanthropist. Nor should he be. He is a business man who is very successfull because he works hard and he loves what he does.

Not only does he create an opportunity for OTHER business people to make their livings but he also creates a great opportunity for pro players to come, represent their sponsors, play for their fans, and make money. ALSO, he creates opportunities for amateur players to compete and grow their games. Kids can compete, women can compete, seniors can compete and everyone wins... what's wrong with THAT???

I am so sick of hearing that people shouldn't make money in pool. Moreso, I am vomiting on my shoes when I hear industry business people appologizing for the money they make and promising NOT to profit on their business ventures. It's just plain stupid to work for FREE. I damn sure don't work for free. I expect a paycheck at the end of the day and so do you, I bet.

And don't give me that crap about how much MORE he's profiting after 12 years of doing the Super Billiards Expo. After 12 years in the same job I'd expect a friggin' raise too.

Think about it.

Vicki

Oh, and P.S., Applause to Allen and Dawn for not appologizing for their success.

Actually he only paid out 64 players, which is rediculous with a field over 1000 players, paying only 6% of the field. If entry fee of $50 is correct and $25 for the show (of course which goes to the Allen Hopkins Productions also) is correct then he paid out about 90% of the money, which is OK since the tables and warm up was free. I just wish they paid more than 64 places. Guess where I finished.......

33-64 32 $475 =$15200
17-32 16 $600 =$9600
9-16 8 $750 =$6000
7-8 2 $1000 =$2000
5-6 2 $1500 =$3000
4 1 $2000 =$2000
3 1 $2500 =$2500
2 1 $3000 =$3000
1 1 $5000 =$5000
=$48300

Excellent Post

Well, since I originated this post, I thought I would chime back in. I still havent heard any results from the events. Although I have saw NEXT years advertisments already up. I havent went to the expo yet, but from friends that were there, I am going to make plans to attend in the future. I dont care how the money is distributed through his company. For a $50.00 entry fee, the end result is a good payout if you are lucky enuff. I just wish he would post the results somewhere from each event. Heck he has a website that he could easily post it too.
