Video - 2005 Open 9-Ball – Efren Reyes vs John Schmidt

Amazing safety play by both players. My question is, do you think Efren was going for the pocket when he shot the heavy english kick into a full table bank shot on the one? I think that maybe he was because he shot it so hard.

I think yes, indeed he was going for that shot. What I dont believe is why he was being a little liberal on the kick safties, leaving enough room for easy kicks, I think he underestimated John's ability to kick whitch forced him to come with a shot. Unfortunately for John this is where Efren's Magic begins.

I hate to jump the bandwagon but Efren is that good, took me about 4 times watching it to be sure, no wonder he is so tough to beat. I sure dont wanna play Efren EVER. he would make a grown man cry.

Efern is a Pros Pro.

When you listen to the Pro players talk about Efren, they speak about him with great reverence.

I don't think so (that should start a hailstorm)

He IS that good, but that 1 ball was not intended to be kick banked for sure. To say that he went for a table-length, masse kick long rail bank in the corner is ridiculous. He was just trying to hit it hard somewhere and get a little lucky. Yes, even Efren does this sometime.

I know, I didnt want to say what I did, its hard to believe but watching Efren, he does this sort of thing alot, Magic, Skill, I dont know, but Im not going to deny what I see.

here is another Efren example, I sure dont think he intended to make the first ball, but I know he intended to make the 5.

so make your own assumptions...

But with his skills, it's hard to prove that he didn't do it on purpose. If it was me, you can bet your house that I just got lucky.

I agree about the 5 ball but I still maintain the 1 ball against Schmidt was "shat" in

maybe he played to shat it in....:p Oh and that Efren is Fuhkin strong....

Tony<-----always seeing the compromise....:D

he did that on purpose. Efren does 1 bank or 2 banks off a kick. I used to think then that he just got lucky off those kinds of shots. but when he starts making those shots on a regular basis, I said to myself; "Damn he must be a freakin' genius or too freakin' lucky ! I guess because we rarely see players who execute those kinds of shots and be successful in most attempts. most of the time unsuccessful, thus why we often say lucky. The thing is... If it's only done once, then it can be called as Luck. but as soon as it becomes a habit, I'm sure that it is more than just luck !

This is what Danny D said in the commentary, not sure if anyone was listening to the audio. The 1 was out in open space with no good kick-safe option, so Efren played to hit it hard and see what happened. He chose to hit it in a way that maximized the chances of something fortunate happening. He made his own luck. I don't think he consciously meant to kick-bank when there were pockets open to kick the ball directly into. If he did have a specific pocket in mind, it wouldn't have been that one. But he maximized his chance of getting lucky, and that was the smart way to play it, and he got rewarded.

your proboly right, only he knows for sure, but you have to admitt making balls in that fashion tends to be a trend for him.

I have to ask this again, since I can't access youtube from Iraq.

Are these BCN/Accu-Stats videos, or clips from them, being posted on youtube?

If so, whoever uploaded them is doing serious harm to Pat Fleming.

If they are personal camcorder videos, then I take it back. Since someone mentioned commentary audio, I assumed someone is pirating Accu-Stats content and posting it on youtube.

I hope everyone realizes that copying a clip from an Accu-Stats video and posting it to youtube is definitely piracy. As it is if you copy any commercially sold billiards tapes.

I believe this one was recorded from TV, as the "Solar Sports'' channel logo can be seen throughout the match.

Yes this is how he calculated it "let's see...I have to kick it with inside english and make sure I send it short of the blocking balls and when it hits the next rail the reverse english will throw it outwards and it will avoid all the balls in the way to go cleanly in the pocket, and let's see the cueball needs to go here so I have an easy shot on the 2 ball" (after the shot thought) "Rats, the cueball didn't go where I intended I'll have to work on that shot."
