Viking A160... From the early or mid-80's?

I stumbled across this cue not too long ago. It needed a new wrap and tip (which have been replaced) but is otherwise in outstanding condition...

What's curious about this Viking is that it has a 3/8 x 10 joint... Anyone know when Viking was using that joint style?

Not sure of the dates, but I have a soft spot for these three point wico Vikings. I have played with a couple of them that hit great.

Some were branded JG for John Guffey.

I had a goncalo alves plain jane that might have been from the same series as your cue, and it too had a 3/8x10 joint. I remember seeing 3/8x10 as a joint option until just a couple of years ago.

I noticed that Viking is still using this design today. For a modern version of this cue with CNC points, refer to the VM-16. I can't tell from the pics if this is now a 4-point cue... but I think it's pretty cool they are still using the basics of the design.

My first cue, a Viking that was purchased new in 1994 had a 3/8x10 pin.
