Viking Valhalla line sucks!

Well you have at least 3 cues that could hold their own in a AZBilliards ugly cue contest. They must hit a ton.

That's fair. The red Sunburst is definitely not traditional and it is more of a display and conversation piece. Fender guitar guys understand it and appreciate it. Nothing in my hands hits a ton.

How does the Viking Invictus shaft compare to the Vikore shaft? According to my reasoning, shafts with carbon inserts should be stiffer than shafts without, and according to Dr. Dave increasing the stiffness has the same effect as increasing the front end mass. In addition, carbon is heavier than wood, so carbon inserts actually increase the front end mass. I am suspicious of the McDermott G-core shafts for the same reason, although I think it's pretty neat to watch them build one in their factory video.
I admit my preference is purely subjective. It (Inviktus) is definitely lower deflection but I simply prefer the feel.

I misread your post, I thought you believed the Inviktus had carbon. If you put a Carbon tube into a wood shaft, you can reduce the diameter and therefore mass while still retaining stiffness.
Yes, good point. For myself, I choose a shaft diameter to fit my fingers, and I like 13mm shafts, so for me the shaft diameter is always going to be 13mm. I was wondering if the Inviktus shaft feels like it has lower deflection than the Vikore shaft with the same tip size.

So, you believe the Inviktus shaft is lower deflection and you like the feel better than the Vikore shaft?

Exactly

Thanks for your advice. I appreciate it.

What tip are you using on your Inviktus shaft? The same tip you like on other shafts, or did you have to go up or down in hardness?

Oh boy, I've got another question: Do you know what the difference is between the "standard" joint and the "A" joint shown here:

Each of the A,B,C,D joints is a $20 upgrade on the BilliardWarehouse order form. I'm inclined to go with the A joint.

I don't know why the A joint would be an upgrade if the cue is a typical resin to resin joint standard. I use about any tip with the word medium in the name and never saw much difference. I am definitely not fine tuning shaft/tip combinations. Now golf clubs I could talk all evening about extra wraps of tape under some of the grip, swing weights, torque, and flex points...but I keep it simple with cues.
