HELP need info: Vintage cues: Schmelke v Palmers???

I have several great cues that I play with (Schon, Jacoby... both with Edge LD shaft) but I see vintage cues for sale and I can appreciate some of the old school craftmanship or at least the cues that have aged well.

In looking at cues from the late 70's to 80's, which cues hit well and have good collectible value when considering Schmelke and Palmers?

Does the unique Schmelke joints of that period affect play negatively, favorably or indifferent?

In the age where plastics came into the game, do these hit like crud??? or are they fairly nice players....when a new tip and period correct ferrule are added?? Are they all quite stiff when hitting??

Are they worth picking up for $100 to $200 or are they best just to look at, from afar and NOT own/waste money?

I am guessing they hit like a rock... and that is why no one ois posting answers
