Hi Steven,

It's a classic Harvey Martin cue. This one looks right to me all the way around - he's in the International Hall of Fame, etc.

Here's a link:

International Cuemakers

I'm kind of surprised it bid up as high as it did so early, looks like there are two people fighting for it. Maybe it was made for someone famous, who knows?

I wish more people had not seen that cue. I bid once the last minute and bought it. Man it went higher than I thought it would, but they are very hard to come by in my part of the country. I am hoping to buy one cue from each cuemaker in the International Cuemakers Hall Of Fame. Had a guy shake computer hands (so to speak) on a nice Spain and then back out the next day. I am not sure if the wife is going to go along with buying a Bushka or Szamboti unless it is a great deal. :( Wish me luck. :)

Hi Chris,

I didn't know that was you. I didn't know you were a collector too. I am " tateuts " on E-Bay.

I still think you did very well on it. I guess you'll know when you get it - the extra shafts, if original would be worth a lot and the case adds a little too.

I figured at the beginning of the auction the cue would go for $2,000 - add in the value of the extra shafts (which look original too) and the case you're quite a bit better than that. I was going to bid on the cue but the price exceeded my bid well before the auction ended.

I wonder what name was on the cue? In the photos it looked like "Eisenhower". If it is, you can retire.

Harvey Martin - March, 1995
Gus Szamboti - March, 1997
Frank Paradise - June, 1998
Eugene and Ilona Balner - July, 1999
Dan Janes - July, 2003

Palmer and Joss are the only two HOFs I don't collect.
Just out of curiosity, why didn't they pick Billy Stroud instead?
Or maybe Craig Peterson and Kersenbrock?

Thank you. I appreciate leaving those Palmers to me! But you are missing out on all kinds of fun too. They keep popping up in attics and at estate sales. Digging them up is half the fun. They are cool old historic cues. What's not to like?

The ACA list I showed also omits Jerry Franklin who was inducted this year.

I think if you view the HOF as three sub-categories, "Historic", "Master Craftsman", and "Mover and Shaker", then their choices make more sense.

I agree with you on the Billy Stroud issue, who would be high in all three sub-categories. However, in my mind, Eugene Balner definitely belongs on the list, also high in all three sub-categories. Bear in mind the accomplishments and success Balner already had before Stroud even turned his first cue. Think of it, he died before engraving machinery was even widely being used. If you collect Paradise, you already collect Balner. As far as movers and shakers go and historic designs, it would be difficult to surpass Balner.

Undoubtedley, the names you mentioned will and should be added, DPK, Stroud, Peterson, but there are also of course, a lot of other "master craftsman" names missing too like Tad and Ernie, on and on. This leaves room for future expansion as they become "historic".

I have a harvey martin replica made by a very good up and coming cue maker out of lubbock, It is loaded with ivory. Solid ivory joint, ivory buttcap and Thick ivory rings. I posted awhile ago that it was a harvey martin replica but maybe now you guys can see it for yourselves. Check out my post. My custom cues for sale.

Stroud might get his chance after he stops making cues or dies.

Stroud received a nomination or two for our ICA hall of fame. But he didn't have the support that others got. I am collecting based on the ICA hall of fame and will not worry about the ACA's. By the way I already have cues by two of theirs that are not in ours. My guess is that with in a few years you Meucci collectors will have Hall of Fame Member cues. IMO he should be next in the living category, but I am only one vote.
