Vinyl veneer points

Does anybody here have the ability to do seamless vinyl veneer points like the old WICO blanks or perhaps know somebody who can or does do it?

I am entertaining the idea of a retro style cue with those kind of veneers.

I don't recall anybody doing it these days and a search turned up nothing.

If memory serves me correct, I had read the veneers were extruded. Not sure there's a cue maker around set up for that, or how practical it would be to farm out a small batch.

I suppose a one-off could be done doing re-cuts in vinyl or even acrylic stock. The end result would still yield brightly colored seam-less veneers, although I'm not sure how thin the re-cuts could be made in said materials.

Anyway, it's just a little food for thought. Good luck with the project. Would love to hear updates as it comes along.

Thanks. At the moment it's just an idea and I want to see how realistic it might be.

If I would move on something like this I would certainly post updates.

I wouldn't see it any different than recut points IF you have the material. That is the only issue I see.

According to Bob Meucci the problem is that they quit making the correct glue that would hold them together in the long run and Viking had to quit using them at that time.

That't an interesting point.

Viking was making them into the 90's.

I didn't know there was an issue with the adhesive.

In this day and age I would think an effective adhesive could be found. Of course, somebody would need to be willing to put the time and work in to find the right adhesive.

That is a good thing. I've worked on several over the years that have come apart. Clean apart. I do believe there are better adhesive today than there were back when the WICO points were built.
