VNEA Rule Question

My team played in a tournament today and we started the last round down by 25 points. We won the last round by 25 points to tie the match. The VNEA tournament rules say to replay the final round as it stands on the scoresheet. The League organizer ruled that we had to start the last round again down by 25 points.

My question is, was this ruling correct and if so, is there any logical reason for this because I can't think of one? The fair and reasonable way to proceed is to play the same order as the final round but starting from a tie.

Thanks for any replies.

Why should you start 25 down again after tieing it up?
I think you should have played the last round in the same order with the score at 0-0.

no it is not correct unless you are spotting 25 points for handicap...you got HOSED....the typical rule is the same 5 players in the same order.....

This doesn't make any sense to me, so please clear this up for me...

Why did they tell you you had to REPLAY the final round? Simply because you tied in the end? And if so, why reset the points? Did something happen that would make the match void and a replay necessary?

Poking around the VNEA site, I can't find anywhere they've got the rules linked and available...?

I think it is correct to replay the last round in the event of a tie.

However the 25 point spot is incorrect.

I think there is a spot based on handicaps (used in each round) that should have been used for the re-play (tie-breaker) set.

played vnea for years, and when tied you only spot the handicap for the round,so unless you got all 10's and they had all 5' you got hosed.

Rules ....

You replay the round, and only round handicaps apply, so if you are spotting them 6 points a round, that's all you spot for the playoff of the match. It is not a replay of the round actually, it is a playoff of the match that mirrors the last normal round in sequence and round handicap.

About 5 years ago in our local VNEA league we would have replayed the last
round same order, now the match goes to most games won in the 25 game 5 round format,, The official VNEA ruling would be nice to know.

This is the only wording for the rule that I could find on the internet. On www.VNEA.com I selected one of the national tournament ads and then went to "Rules,Format,Etc."

8-Ball Team Format

The 25 game round robin format will be used in the Open 8-Ball team events. The 16 game round robin format will be used in the Women’s 8-Ball team events. Each player will play each player from the opposing team once. The team with the most points at the end of the match will be declared the winner. If there is a tie in the total points, the teams will play the last round over as it stands on the scoresheet until a winner is decided. Flip for the first break and alternate thereafter
.

The two players in our league that have been to Vegas and the Ontario Provincials both said that the last round is replayed using the score at the end of the fourth round. I asked the question with the contact email on the VNEA site and I will post it here if I get a reply.

The last round is played again but not at the score after the fourth round. In vegas the score would be 0-0 the winner of the round is the winner. I am a vnea ref and am sure of how this works.

How you doing? This is Sam Kirby. Are you going to VNEA in Vegas?
You are correct about the score at 0-0 and they would flip for first break but should keep the same shooting order and play against the same player as the 5th round.
