This discussion about best player is provoking a lot of interest.

Before I vote, I must ask one question. Where IS Shannon Daulton?

I have seen Nick, Efren, Buddy, and Jose, the names on your poll, playing in tournaments or otherwise on numerous occasions in the past 9 or more months, but Shannon has been visibly absent. The last time I saw him personally was at the last Derby City Classic, and ironically, he was in the crowded hallway filled with veteran action players and lots of spectators trying to get a ring game going and asked each of the action players, "Let's all put up and see who the best pool player is right now, once and for all." Got to love the guy's heart. Miss seeing him around.

Why don't you put up more names? Nothing from Europe? Where is Hohmann? What about from Canada Pagulayan, who also is a good all-around player? What about from Taiwan? Except for Daulton, the rest of the guys are pretty much pass their primes. See how hard to quantify this shit is? It's like saying the best fruit in the world is apple. Jesus christ, apples don't even grow in many parts of the world!

Come on guys we"ve been over this, If you really know your pool you must know Efren is the best all-around player now and he gets my vote for all time. think about it, Some say he is the best 9-ball player Ive heard alot of top pros say he is the best 8-ball player he has won best one-pocket player of all time award in billiards digest. He plays good snooker, billiards he plays them all. He is the best player to ever pick up a cue!

One more thing if you make the game 14.1 to lest say 300 or more i think he could beat anyone in the world at that also. 150 he could be beaten but in a long set i think he wins 95% of games played in a long race in 14.1

Thorsten Hohmann was quoted as saying he has 400 ball runs in 14.1, if this is true Efren would have his hands full with Thorsten.

The best all around player in the game is without a doubt Efren. But 5 years from now or so it will be a very different story as Efren is obviously past his prime and slowly fading (slowly!).

Your right about hohman, He is a good player i saw him at the espn zone sevenball challenge he has good skill. Efren slowing down? well.... maybe but efren at 50% is stil better thand 70% of the pros today.

I guess its why johnny archer isnt on the list there just pretty much 9ballers

Is this even a question?
Efren won 3 world 8-ball titles.
Efren won the last straight-pool tournament by PBT.
Running 130+ against Rempe in the semis.
He ran 140+ against West in his last straight-pool tourner but lost to Soquet in the finals.
Who won the overall in the Derby City Classic years ago?
I believe Efren won the bank-pool and one-pocket category then rebought his way back to the semis of the 9-ball.
I saw Efren play 3 cushion at Holywood Billiards with a Meucci pool cue years ago. Lemme see anyone do that.:D
Efren came back and beat Earl in the Color of Money. Down 87-104, he won 120-117.
Efren went the US Open finals 4 times in a row.

How can Bustamante possibly be overlooked in so many of these hypothetical polls?

Actually, Daulton, Varner, Hall, Parica, and Reyes are not just nine ballers, Bustamante is though. Look at all of the tournament wins in other divisions the other guys have. Daulton is an all-around champion of the Derby City Classic. So is Reyes. Varner has won World Championships in every single discipline. Hall is a World 9-Ball Champion and Legends of One Pocket winner. Parica is as well. What has Bustamante accomplished other than 9-Ball wins? I am not trying to discredit his ability to play 9-Ball, but other than that I am unaware of victories in any other discipline.

You should go to the Philippines and watch Busta play some rotation money games. It's a very tough game but he plays it excellently. His cue ball control is top notch. He's so good he has to give some weight to some world-class pool players. Too bad he's always being overshadowed by the great Efren Reyes.
