Wall rack clips

I figured a cuemaker would know and have the best input on this.

Would a rack with the rubber(?) clips on them harm a cue in any way?
The picture below are ones like I'm talking about.

I'd say 'yes'

I've seen old cues in such a rack at some places and all of them were dented/worn at the clip point of the shaft. If you can adjust those clips to hit the ferrule or the joint, that would minimize the damages done.

I prefer a hole in the top of a holder to hold the shaft, or something less damaging than hard plastic.

I wouldn't use anything with clips either. You could easily take the clips off that one piece of wood and drill you a hole in each position that goes all the way through the wood (the design chefjeff is referring to) and that way the tip of the shaft would slide up into/through the hole to hold it instead of clips. Depending on the width/heighth of that piece of wood, you may have to shim it a little away from the wall to get it aligned with the bottom holder.
