Hi,

I thought this would be an interesting topic : Have you ever engaged in a little $hit talk with the guys at the pool room . ya know, bragging about how you'd give so&so the 7 ball and you shot so&so's liver out blah blah blah, ya know what i like to call big shot talk. Well, i think all of us are guilty of that to some degree, we all have embelished(sp) on stories to either make ourselves look good or to make the story sound that much juicier and I think we all have said somethings that we wished to the good lord above that we could take back. Well anyway, I want to share something with you that was more comical then it was serious ( thank goodness )

several years ago, I was in the local pool room just doing what pool impersonators do, talking about this guy and that guy, how much of a dog this guy is and how much of a nit so&so is etc . well, the subject came to a certain roadplayer who I heard was going to be in town in about a week but has yet to arrive ( or so i thought ) well, i don't know what got into me, but i told my buddy and about 3 other railbirds that if this said roadplayer would ever come in town i'd give his (quote): "ball bunting nitty azz 9-7" . I was going on and on ( I had a few beers in me ) and then like something out of a horror movie, the looks on their faces changed . my buddy in particular had this evil little snicker on his face and the guy next to him was doing something weird with his eyes ( I know now that he was trying to say look behind you ) and i said "what, what's going on?!" because i felt something was'nt right, and then I turned around .............

It was Larry Price ..... my face turned as red as a stop sign, and all he did was smile, meanwhile I wanted to get away ....... far away!!!! ... I felt like this guy!:embarrassed2:

Right! What was the outcome of all this, tough guy :speechless:

i was back tracking like a maniac, all the while nervously telling larry i was just talking $hit . I'm surprised he did'nt pull my card and say "alright, u got me!" . I suppose he knew b.s. when he heard it, so i was able to save a little face .

Btw,I could'nt give ronnie milsap 9-7:eek:

the only way i'd give larry 9-7 is if the game was so gaffe it was ridiculous. something like : he'd play 2 and stop + none of my fouls counted + i get to break until i liked it + he'd play one handed ( in the air ) + he'd play one leg in the air + i get ball in hand after the break - and even then i would'nt have to like the game ( that's how bad i play )

Lol. That's pretty funny. I got caught mouthing off like that once and I did give the guy the spot. Played better than I thought I could and didn't beat him, but earned some respect.

Then another time I caught a guy mouthing off like that and I mouthed off back and got him good.

He walked in a bar I was in and laughed and said "Man, I could beat anybody in here!"

I happened to be sitting by the door and said "Oh yeah, well I bet I can beat you with a house cue with no tip on it."

He bit and I drilled him a couple of quick sets with bare wood off the wall. He was pissed. I heard his buddy tell him on the way out "If you're in a pool hall and someone tells you they can do something. They probably can."

We were laughing our asses off.

One comeback I'll never forget : A pretty decent young shortstop ( i won't say his name because he is a member of AZ ) struts into the pool room with that unmistakeable air of cockiness and gold chains and fancy watch . He strikes up a conversation with a few of the players that know him, and in jest he pronounces that he's got more dough on him than anybody in the whole room ....... Combined! ( quite loudly ) well, the owner of the room at the time was a cagey veteran player in his own right and had a reputation for being one of the most feared money players in his day; he hears this and shouts from accross the room ( to the young punk ) "yeah, but the problem is, only 20% of that money is actually yours , why don't you call ( he gives a name ) and tell him that i'll double whatever the 80% is in your pocket if you give me 10-7, and we'll see whose got the most cash in here, that's if you're not too scared. I laughed so hard, i almost feel off my stool! he did'nt expect the old man to say that ........ and nah, they did'nt play
