Do You:

1) Have multiple cues?
2) Talk tips or ferrules at the Pool hall?
3) Talk shaft sizes or tapers at the Pool Hall?
4) See other cues that you want details on that the owner doesn't know?
5) Want to measure tip height?
6) Want to measure the joint? or the handle?
7) Buy, sell, or trade cues at tournaments or Pool halls?
8) Want to settle arguments about #1-6 above?

Then you need your own Calipers!!! Don't want to spend a bunch on them, then do as I did, buy some cheap ones.

I bought the Grizzly G5621 6" Vernier Calipers for $3.95, and keep them in my long pocket with no trouble. They have come in handy many times.
They are in block 28. I am very happy with them.

Howdy,
Did you forget to mention the magnifying lens to examine the wood grain of the shaft?:D

Hey I need one of those lenses. Any good source of the lupes? Is 10x enough? As for the calipers get 'em, although digital is nicer.

Ooooooo, they're chrome plated ! If these are the plastic units then I would pass, they can't be trusted nor will they last if used much. At least buy a cheap stainless vernier or a cheap dial unit, they have some on that same page. Of course they may hurt a bit more when you carry them in your pocket, perhaps a nice belt-clip-holder would be appropriate.

The discriminating shopper might be more interested in these :
