want to use Schon shafts on regular 5/16x14 joint cue butt?

Just like the thread title asks, plain old cue butt with 5/16x14 joint.
In place of buying pre-made shafts that don't fit right and expenses custom shafts.

I have an older cue butt that is being refinished, I'd like to match schon shafts to it. Can I get the joint pin and joint matching joint collar?

Some questions.
What size joint screw are the Schon shafts made for, .302x14 or smaller as opposed to standard 5/16x14 which could range from .307 to .312x14?
What is the pilot i.d. of the butt? Schon approximately.530
What is in the butt now? reference above question
Joint collars, black silver black or old school rings rings?
Might be good questions for who ever is refinishing the butt.

Hello Michael, well first off, did you see some of those full splice blanks BullDog is offering?

OK, about the Schon joint.
I have a good quality custom 4 pointer that's almost beat into the ground.
Picked up new handle from cue components, maple w purpleheart core.
I knew the builder of the cue and I chose to remake it.
The original shaft is dead, total firewood, nice big Schon shaft will replace that.
I'm ripping out the 3/8x10 pin and will need to completely rebuild the joint.
I want to fit my Schon shafts onto the cue.
So... Primary focus is the pin and steel joint collar, not worried about joint dress collars.

Well the good part is. Your taking out the joint screw, plugging the hole and starting fresh. The stainless joint if it's not already on there will probably be a 5/8x18 thteaded with a 1/2," center hole, might as well bore that joints i.d. bore to .530. And of course the cue is indicated and running true. Schon joints are .836. Lastly is your joint screw. How you doing so far?

Everything's fine, until I read this - ''302 X 14''.

The 5/16x14 might just be the most varied sized joint screw in the industry. I have seen it in .288, .294, .298, .302, .304, .306, .308, .310 and full .312x14. Crazy huh. If your Schon shafts don't screw on to a standard 5/16x14 joint screw, you could always run a standard tap down them. If you choose not to, then you have to find out the actual size screw your Schon shafts are made for.it could be .302, .304 or .308. The standard tap will allow them to fit all sizes. It's all about how you want them to fit. Some say it doesn't matter if the shaft screws down loose meaning wiggle. Some say it does. What say you?

Schon, old Mali, Joss, Schuler, Schick, It's George, Black Boar, Mezz. They use a different size (O.D.) 5/16x14 joint screw. Even the thread at the base of uni loc is a different size o.d.. Probably over kill on my part listing the variables but it's something everyone should know. Jmo
