Who was selling the 48" ground steel dovetail beds for the Taig conversions here on AZ? I remember seeing the thread but I can't find it now. I need one to mount on a Techno Isel table I just picked up. If anyone has one for sale either PM me or email me at sherm@shermcue.com. Thanks

Lee at Brianna is the only one that I remember seeing that offered any.

Another option is I bought a 48" aluminum one from Anthony Gotti for my inlay machine project. After machining the mounting I sent it out and had it hard anodized coated. Not sure what the anodize cost was because they charge a bulk rate. I sent it out with some other stuff from work. I can find out if you want to know.

Hard coat aluminum dove tails and complete lathe beds are readily available from me and others who post on this forum.

Sherm,

Did you ever have any luck with this?
I'm looking for one too.

No. I wasn't building a lathe, just a few jigs for my CNC's so I ended up using some "80/20" extruded aluminum. It would have been nice to use a dovetail but for what I was doing, wasn't really necessary. I did find that with the right bits I can machine aluminum plate on my Techno Isel Gantrys. But until I got the right bits, it was tough action. Took me a while to clean up all of the aluminum shavings.

If people are looking for options for long accurate beds another option is using "Optical Rails". I work for a university and the scientists use these rails to set up mirrors and lenses on optical tables. They have been made for many years and are available in aluminum and steel. I have a collection of old ones which were scrapped from labs. They come in various configurations but if someone is creative you can build attachments for them and they are quite accurate. Just throwing out some ideas.

Gotta love those shavings. They have a way of traveling everywhere you walk. I keep letting them pile up around My mill before cleaning them up, and they stick to My feet, ending up everywhere. They stick really well to carpet too. My old lady just loves me for that.

BTW, I bought a piece of Chris's anodized bedway, and mounted to a piece of 80/20 to use on My pantograph. I have a lot of weight attached to It, but It works fine for that.
