More Fun Facts

Here are some more fun facts that Jerry Brieseth had told me a while back when he used to own Cue-Nique Billiards.

The first plastic was acutally invented for billiards. I believe his name was John Wesley Hyatt. They offered $10,000 to someone who could invent a better billiard ball vs. the ivory balls. If you bought a new set of ivory balls it would be seven days before you could actually play with them.

Chalk was also invented by a prison inmate.

IMO, one of the best resources for the history of the cueing sports is "The Billiard Encyclopedia" by Victor Stein and Paul Rubino. It is out of print now, but you may be able to locate a copy on ebay. It's a huge book, very well researched and replete with excellent graphics and text.

SF
If I am not mistaken National Billiard Mfg. Co. in Covington KY still has a few copies on their shelf. They will be out of town until Aug 1st. Their phone number is 859-431-4129
