Hey all, I'm holding a small local team tournament on Dec. 7 of this year. We have it setup to have a $1600.00 total purse. $1100.00 will be paid out to the teams and $500.00 of the proceeds will go to the March of Dimes in honor of my daughter, Katherine. (My wife and I were scheduled to have twins in November, but our daughter was diagnosed with Trisomy 13 and didn't make it to term. Our son, James, was born 9 weeks early and is doing GREAT! March of Dimes works with research of Trisomy 13 and is also active with premature babies and their familes, so this foundation touches our situation in a few different ways)

I'm looking for small donations of pool related items to raffle. 100% of the proceeds from the items will go to the March of Dimes.

12/10/2013: The tournament was a success! We raised $1130.00 for the March of Dimes.

Here's a breakdown of the money:

$400.00 entry fees - We had a 1400.00 total purse (7 teams), instead of a 1600.00 total purse (based on 8 teams), so we adjusted accordingly.
$200.00 Bobby Hull jersey
$200.00 Jim Pierce cue
$125.00 cash donations from AZB members
$205.00 raffled off donation items

Total $1130.00

2. Anonymous - $25.00
3. Mr.vmax - 2 tee shirts, Action tip clamp, 3 Super Slide Rite bags, Draw Shot dry erase board, Robin Dodson jump shot video.
4. CoryC - Bat Bridge and shooting glove.
5. Catering cost donated by James Troha.
6. Gerard Soriano - 5 Accu-Stats DVDs featuring Efren, Frost, Incardona, Immonen, and more!
7. Ben - $100.00 :)
8. Miller - 1 DVD, 4x8 soft case, blue diamond chalk, bridge, and magnetic chalker.
9. Jim Pierce - Goncalo Alves Merry Widow cue!
10. J. Vogrin - Signed Bobby Hull Blackhawks jersey.

Good luck Mike! I do not think I have anything to add, but will take a look.

Also, I have often seen non pool related items do well in silent auctions in charity tournaments. Might be an idea to look in to.

Do you have a venue picked out yet?

This initial tourney is going to be held at The Raven's A.C. here in Joliet. It's a small 8 team tourney, race to 9, 5 man rotation. $200.00 per team.

Send an email to kimberly@str8-shots.com with your address and Str8 Shots will donate. Are children going to be allowed at the event? If so let me know and I will send stuff for you to give each of the kids a goody bag along with some other items to raffle.

Kids won't be at this event, unfortunately. I do appreciate the offer and any other items you do send for the raffle will be listed and the money generated will go to the March of Dimes to help their cause researching birth defects and helping families that care for children with birth defects.

I will email you my info tonight when I get home from work and I'll answer all other posts and pms.

11/21/2013 Possible Change of Plans for Donations! Please Read: Recently, the town of Washington, Illinois was ravaged by an F4 tornado. A family there has twins due (something I've just experienced myself) and they lost everything...house, items, baby shower gifts, everything. They're staying in a hotel at the moment and trying to recover while they should be solely focused on their twins being born. This hit home with me and while I feel the March of Dimes is a good organization to support, I think the money from the tournament fees and donations would be better served by directly helping a single family in need. I need to know from the people that have already donated if this would pose a problem. Please, let me know.
 
Thank you. The family actually declined and thanked me for the gesture. Proceeds are going to the March of Dimes as originally planned.
