Wanting a Custom Cue built

Anybody who wants a cue built to their specs in my opinion needs to find a builder who already builds cues in that form. Why would you ask Porsche to build you a Mercedes. Makes no sense, also I think it is offensive to a cue builder skills. I would love to own a Sugartree or Josey, but I would never tell either how to build the cues they are so beloved for. Do you really think a player knows more that a experienced builder? Case and Point, i am a huge Runde fan, I love how his cues play, who am I to give him advice on how to build a cue, and btw he doesn't build to spec and I think a great cue builder has no reason too.

There are 'cue builders' and there are 'custom cue builders'.
One builds to order, the other doesn't.

All i can say is I'm not gonna call someone I respect and say "hey respected builder, can you build my a cue that plays like a "xxxx"" I find that offensive.

I agree with you Tom! I like cue builders who will do custom cues in their style but don't really deviate from their style. I'm not going to try and order a 6 point, big pin cue from Runde or Tascarella just like I wouldn't try to order a steel joint traditional 4pnt/4vnr cue from Southwest or Sugar Tree. It's all about deciding what you want in a cue and then finding a builder who's style suits your desires and fine tune from there.

While Bob won't build a cue that isn't his style, he nailed my custom order in design, weight, and balance. I was pretty specific and he knocked it out of the park! But I wanted the kind of cue he builds and just wanted the details fine tuned to my preference.

Oh, and thanks for making it happen Tom! Played with it today and god I love this cue!

Same scenario in the custom car world. But as far as I mm concerned when dropping that much money you should get it EXACTY how you want it. If one does not want to accommodate that's fine, work with a different builder.

Slide, Like I said after I saw what Bob built for you I could not wait for a similar cue. I love it also and I bet we could swap cues and they would play nearly the same.

Over here in England many highly regarded cuemakers will listen politely to a customer's request regards performance, feel, playability, etc, charge an eye-watering price for the courtesy, and then make the cue exactly how they consider best anyway.

And do you know what... most folks tend to love the result when their new cue arrives, their desire to be happy with an expensive purchase tells them everything is perfect.

And do you know what... most folks tend to love the result when their new cue arrives, their desire to be happy with an expensive purchase tells them everything is perfect.

I would rather have the builder say "You will like the cue I build you, if not send it back", than just assume and deny requests of the buyer.

Both types of cue builders have their strengths. For example, AZer Sheldon Lebow make his "standards cue," but I've had him build special cues with customizations that most cue makers won't entertain.
