warp

there seems to be a slight warp in my shaft and it wobbles when i roll it across the table. i must say it is not affecting my play in any adverse manner, but it plays a psychological part in my head. i'm like shooting with a bent arrow.

any way to fix that?

My advice...

There are ways to fix a slight warp, any good cuemaker or cue repair person may be able to help you. The problem is, the cue always tends to go back to being warped, except worse. What I would recommend is a new shaft. That way you can keep the cue and since you are used to the balance and how it plays, in theory the new shaft should not make much difference.

Hope this advice helps!

i've had some success straightening slight warps by hanging the assembled cue for about a week. i use and old brunswick tip clamp with a hanging hook on it, put the cue together and hang it on a nail. the weight of the butt will straighten it out (to a point).

i put some sealer on the shaft afterward, seems to help keep the shaft from re-warping.

i heard some people talk about it and they said something like spraying the shaft with a little water so the wood 'loosens' and goes straight. and yeah, i also heard about the cue warping back again. how do you prevent that? what sealer is that, larry?

Wood has memory.
You can bend it to the opposite of the warp.
Most likely, it will go back to where it bowed again.
Shafts usually warp towards the direction of the grain.
That's just nature.
How badly warped is it?
If you can hit the cb up and down the rail dead straight, I don't think you should worry about it too much.

a guy i know told me he got warps out using superhot water and pressure. He did this to a slightly warped shaft i had and its straight now. Basically he runs the shaft under really hot water then puts the shaft in a jig of sorts and presses it in the opposite direction of the warp. This was awhile back and it worked great, I'll have to check and see if the warps returned because i dont shoot with that cue much anymore.

a couple of applications of cue slick did the trick for me on 2 shafts after hanging. no return of the warp, and it's been a few months on each. there were also a couple of shafts that hanging did no good at all.
