Warpage question...

So.. I just got a predator cue with a z2 shaft about a month ago.. been doing fine. Had it home for a while, it's winter and the house may get cold sometimes... but I have it in my vinyl 2x2 case... but yea.. so I bring it to school today... public trans so there was a lot of outside cold, then inside warm etc...

I have a tendency to roll my cues on the table at school to make myself feel better lol i like the straight roll.. but i got a bone chiling feeling when i did it today and it wobbled slightly... i mean thats a $200 shaft..

so yea.. i roll it on a diff table and its not so bad... i take it apart, roll the shaft, i don't really see any extreme wabble, i mean i think my eyes tricked me, maybe a tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiny one.. the butt doesn't wobble.

this kinda thing happened to my first cue too, an action, the shaft itself doesn't wobble too much, but once i piece it together, it seems to be extremed....

so the main question is, what does this all mean? is the shaft warped? is it just the taper that makes it seem like its wobbly? could it be the joint? idk what should i do?

Thanks guys

It could just be the table and not your cue.

It could also be the pin on your butt is slightly crooked if you drop your butt in the case joint down without joint protectors.

It could also just be from the cold, if the cue is cold make sure to let it warm back up to room temp before shooting with it. I live in Chicago and use public transportation too during winter, my best advice is get an instroke case (premier one, nothing fancy) keeps the cold out very well.

I would avoid rolling your cue on the table, and if you do just check if the joint and tip stay down. If they do then you're good to go. If not then you probably have a bigger problem or the table is really bad. I've had some shafts seem to have a roll one day then its gone the next.

Sounds like it's no big deal and won't affect playability. If you watch the tip when you stroke and it doesn't move it's fine.

Mine did something similar. Same cue same shaft.
I just think its different environs affecting the wood.
I don't care if mine has a bend big enough to shoot around corners , this 375 dollar cue plays better than almost anything I ever played with , and I have tried most of them.
My early 70s Tad was a great cue tho.
I doubt I could tell a difference if there was a slight warp in the butt, the shaft yes.

Heck, I don't really know, cause I thought my 314-2 shaft was really bad and when Mike Webb spun it up on his lathe he said I made it sound way worse than it really was... But anyways...

Search for posts regarding rolling the shaft or entire cue on the rail (not on the flat of the table) while looking at the tip for wobble ... You will see that using the table as a measure isn't always the best way to go about judging a cue. Also, if the collar and the tip don't leave the table and all you get is a taper roll ... that is a different situation than a shaft that wobbles so badly that the tip lifts off the table.

It's wood, it ain't gonna be perfect no matter what you do!
