Warped cue question...?

I have a friend with an entry level cue. The shaft is fine but the butt has a slight warp to it... but you can only see the warp if you roll it on the table very very slow. I told him to save his pennys for something else.

Would this be alright to play with? What is worse a warped shaft or warped butt and why?
 
I'd say a warped shaft would be worse.
I would think that a warped shaft would make it a lot harder to keep the stroke of the cue level, therefore easier to impart english onto the ball.
 
Playing with a warped shaft or butt will hurt your playing ability.

What will happen is your stroke will not be the same each time you stroke, because you do rotate the cue in your hand and never hold the cue in the same spot. [meaning the same spot up with the cue, a mark or spot in the wood]. If you did hold it in the same spot, the tip will become flat in that spot. So not holding it the same each shot, will throw your shot off. The cue will curve to the "cues curve", or warp.

It's best to have both sections straight. Then no matter where you hold the cue, it's straight with your stroke. A straight delivery is very important, as you can see.

i agree highly with blud from the players point of view....i have tried to play with cues as described and it seriously affected my ball making ability.....my suggestion is to retire the cue and get a new one....also ask your friend to find a little bit nicer cue .....this will insure with a higher percentage that this doesnt happen as fast....look around there are many great cuemakers out there that make entry level cues that you could try.....i would recommend a sneaky pete from some that builds nicer cues so that you can get a feel for there product in case you decide to go to the next level......give ol blud a try ....his cues are very sound and i have owned several of them over the years ......will own a new one soon so i will let you know how it plays compared to the old ones .....good luck in your cue hunt......juston coleman

I offered to try to straighten my friend's shaft. He left it for me and I noticed that the shaft is pretty straight, but the butt has a little wobble in it. Can anything be done to improve it? He doesn't have the scratch for a new cue.
 
What kind of cue is it? It's no easy working on stuff from over seas. If it's from over seas, I will not work on it. If it's AMERICAN made, let me know.
