Of course! It helps your timing. :D

Sorry, but someone was going to say it, so I said it first

In the old days ............

It used to just represent an other available barrel If & when you went broke. That was after you lost your stick, case, ring, necklace, car, pharmaceutical stash, etc. The watch was usually the last to go.

NOW-A-DAYS, I THINK THEY USE IT TO TELL THE TIME OF DAY.

honestly i think it just comes from habit. most people wear watches doing whatever.

email ralf at his website. its probably a safe bet that he doesn't even know that he's wearing a watch half the time.

i wear a watch and don't even notice it when i'm playing.

Not losing it or having it stolen are the main benefits. Maybe because people normally wear a watch and it just stays on to play. If I wore a cheap watch I might take it off to play. But I don't take my watch off even in nice poolrooms. I wear it for almost everything, so I just forget it is there. Buy a good watch and then report if you take it off in public a lot. ;-)

I've given up wearing a watch for the last 10 years.....

I wake up when I want, leave when I want. What do I need a watch for?

There is one at the pool hall, in the car, on the wall at work, on the computer at work, plus there is a meeting reminder on my PC, all around my house.. on the tv, mantel, oven, microwave and on the computer..

Does wearing a watch bother you while you play? ..is that why you ask?

Doesnt bother me. I wear mine all the time.

How about wearing a ring? Was wondering if it helped with the bridge hand.

After we put the table in the basement I noticed little slashes in the cloth around the pockets. They got longer and longer over time. I thought that I was catching my rings on the lip of the pockets (where the cuts were) when removing the balls, and started to play without the rings. A year or so later I recovered the table, and those darned cuts started appearing within a week or so. Of course I was not wearing rings anymore, but now obviously that was not the problem. Turns out that my cheap table was getting chipped slate around the pockets likely from the ball bouncing off the back of the pocket and striking the lip. That's all I can figure, but to this day I have the habit of taking off the rings ... good thing the wife doesn't come down to the pool hall or she'd be wondering ...... back to the thread now...

Dave, who agrees with Tom that watches are not really needed (OK, I can't afford the watch I want)

I started wearing a watch a couple of years ago and I REALLY noticed it at first, mostly because I wear it a little loose and if it slid all the way up it got in the way of making certain bridges.

In fact, that watch broke because the metal pins that hold the band bent from playing so much (40-50 hours a week at that time).

It also could have been the style of watch or band because the one I have now is fine.

I always wear a watch...always. Never had a problem playing pool with one. Rings are another thing...I wear them, but on occasion I find myself having to adjust them before a shot.
