I'll be in Washington DC tomorrow (Wednesday ) evening and thursday evening. Any good weekly tournaments? Where's the "place to be" for pool on those nights?

Depends on how far you want to go. There's a solid tournament at Orange Ball in Rockville (35-45 minutes North of the city) on Wednesday at 8:00. Very strong field normally, definitely worth the trip. Mike Davis, Brandon Shuff, and Keith McCready all show up a lot, along with a lot of other strong locals.

If you want to stay in the District, there aren't any tournaments on Wed. or Thursday that I know of. But I'd be happy to shoot one of those two nights. Bedrock Billiards in Adams Morgan is where I normally shoot in DC.

on thursday night, there's a $20 tournament at first break cafe in sterling, va. About 30 minutes from DC? It's a good tournament with a strong field. This would definitely be your tournament/action spot for thursday night. I'll probably be there

Heya. . . Orange Ball in Rockville on Wednesday nights. Also, Champion Billiards (I know it's changed names but I can't remember. . maybe Winston Billiards?!?) has restarted their Thursday night 9ball tournament. From what I hear they are building the field back up.

Once upon a time we had a post somewhere for the local DC/VA/MD tournaments. . . I don't know what happened to it. Maybe at lunch time I'll update it.

Cory steered you right, Mike Page. Orange Ball in Rockville, MD on Wednesday nights at 8:00 p.m. usually enjoys a good turnout. A $20 entry fee is well worth the price. If you arrive there early, there is free pool if you buy a sandwich. Many local players take advantage of this offer and arrive at Orange Ball early and play pool to their hearts' content. :)

Cory, BTW, I was driving back from Chinatown the other day, once again, and this time I saw the pool room on U Street. I think it was last week on a Tuesday, if memory serves me right, and running down the street trying to catch somebody looked to me like Bus Driver Ronnie. I immediately turned right, after passing the pool room, thinking I could go around the block and catch up with him. However, I ran into one-way street going the opposite direction and just decided to head back home!

Thursday nights, there's another $20-entry-fee 9-ball tournament in Sterling, VA at First Break Billiards. It's not near a metro (subway), like Orange Ball in Rockville, so you'd need a car to get there, but this is an excellent tournament. Good people and a whole lot of fun! :D

Mike and I played last Thursday night. Mike might disagree, but it seemed about as close to a dead-even matchup as I've ever seen. Mike winning our RSB ladder match (something of a legacy event for me since I've moved to AZB) 7-6 after I miscued on the 8, up 6-5 (I think). But I won a 9-ball set later. We played some 1P and straight pool, as well.

Mike ended the night one set ahead, aided by his dramatic skill advantage in straight pool exceeding my moderate skill advantage in one pocket. By which I mean Mike won a set of 1P getting 9-8. If he gets an open shot, he's gonna use his straight pool skills to run 5-8 balls.

Beers were drank, fun was had. Nice meeting you, Mike.

Cool, it worked. Now he'll bet big on my next trip to DC ;-).

I had a good time. We played from 7:00 PM to 1:30 AM battling back and forth the whole time. I recommend anyone visiting DC contact Cory to see if he's available. Thanks again Cory.
