weight bolt in j/b cue

I recently bought a used Players JB5 jump break and noticed it is super light in the handle. I removed the bumper, and there is no weight bolt in there, and doesn't look like there ever was one. It's just bare hollowed wood with an inner diameter that looks like about 1/2" I have no idea what the actual weight of the cue is, but the forearm portion is considerably heavier than the handle when separated, and all the forward weight is throwing my stroke off when breaking, unless I grip the handle right behind the joint at the handle/forearm. That's just awkward. Can I purchase a weight bolt in the diameter of the inside of the handle and just screw it in, or will does the inner wall need to be tapped or have a threaded insert for the bolt to screw into? I can provide a picture if necessary.

Sometimes you can tap wood and the wood will take the thread.... Others , the wood just tears and will not tap.... Some folks will apply super glue inside the hole before tapping and the wood will tap.... Live threading is the way to go for that job if it is not threaded...
