Weight Bolts

I have a cue that weighs 19.7 ounces. The cue has a steel weight bolt. If I change the steel bolt with a aluminum bolt how much will the cue weigh? I'm would prefer the weight around 19 ounces. Any help is appreciated.

Subtract the weight of the steel bolt and add the weight of the aluminum bolt

You have a few alternatives:

1. Replace the current steel bolt with a shorter steel bolt.
   
   Bolts are sold in various lengths/weights. You could weigh the one you have, then buy a new one of the appropriate length to produce the weight you want.​
2. Replace the current steel bolt with an aluminum bolt of the proper weight.
   
   Aluminum bolts weigh about one-third of what a steel bolt of the same length weighs.​
3. Shorten the current steel bolt.
   
   You can weigh the current steel bolt, then easily judge approximately what fraction of the bolt to cut off to attain your target weight.
   
   For a 3/8-16 steel bolt, for example, cutting off about 1 3/4" would reduce it by about 0.7 oz., which is your stated target.
   
   You can just use a hacksaw to cut off the end of the bolt, then smooth off any sharp edges with some sandpaper.​

Note that reducing the weight of the bolt will move the cue's balance point forward somewhat (probably somewhere between a half inch and an inch for a reduction of 0.7 oz.).

Caveat -- I'm not a cuemaker, but I have fiddled a lot with changing or altering weight bolts.
