what weight are most peoples break cues

I don't know about other people, but I like the 15 or 16 oz break cue. I think most of the are around 18, maybe 19.

I took after Neil Fujiwara...I broke with his 15 oz Predator BK, and WOW, it was the most beautiful break I had ever executed!

Exactly how in the world can you get a break cue that low of a weight if it's not hollow?

I break with an 18 and I consider it super light.

I say the breaker s/b .5 to 1 oz heavier than the playing cue. Tried the light one & sacrificed a good bit of control w/ it.

I sort of have a theory about break cues and weight...and this is strictly my opinion.

The slower the cloth, the heavier the cue I want...the faster the cloth, the lighter the breaker I want.

*shrug*

Seems to work for me...

About the same

I just switched from a 21 oz. cue to 20.2 oz cue
about 5 years ago. I break with a stick about the
same weight. I have always preferred the heavier
side to cues.

I've always believed in "the larger the hammer, the harder the hit". Back in my ball banger days I used to break as hard as I could, and yes I've lost a few tips and cracked a few ferrules. Today I no longer break that hard, and I've learned that the hardest hit doesn't always pocket a ball or leave you the best spread for a run out. Still, it's easier to let the weight of the cue do some of the work instead of just your arm.

But then again, everyone has their own opinion.

I have a friend in NYC that breaks with a 22.oz .Hell that nuts .But for my size 18 oz is jus fine ,,All wrist ..No arm..And i'm a big man-male...

Predator BK

I asked neil about his cue, because his is that light. He also works for Predator...so,

He said, "It was a fluke, but we changed the design on them so you can't get one like that anymore. Sorry. The only way now is to drill one out, but you could easily damage the cue in the process."

I have built custom (requested by the player) break cues from 16 oz to 22 oz range.

Apparently different people like different weights of Break cues. Kind of like picking a Bullet Caliber for a Service Firearm. There is no perfect Caliber, just the one that you can shoot best with....

they used to break with light cues <18oz, because they wanted cue speed. but that's because they were breaking with crappy break cues.

now that they're making cues specifiaclly for breaking, hard tip herd ferrule hard joint stiff shaft etc etc,,,cue speed is not necessary to compensate for weak cues. with a great break cue, it makes more sense to go heavy with less cue speed and more cb control.
