Weight

Anyway, what would you rather have the last 3 or the call 7 and the breaks?

What about the last 2 and the breaks vs. the call 7?

Does any experienced gambler want to break down the basics of 9 ball weight and what is typically worth more?

Thanks, Mack

It really depends on the speed of the players. The last three for two good players isn't much weight. However, good player getting the breaks (a or a+) is almost like giving up the five, plus control of the table. When playing less experienced players giving the breaks works to the better players advantage more enough then not. Lesser player won't run out much and his skill at controling the table isn't very good. Better player will be left with easy outs. Giving more skilled players one ball 7 or 8, even the last two or three doesn't matter as much. In most cases they won't go for the early out, unless it's a duck. Lesser players that don't have the ability to run out as often will chase the money, so make them call all money balls that way it's not a free ride. When giving more then one ball try to split them,i.e. 6-8, 5-7. As I said it really depends on who is playing.

good points ginsu! to prove these points I have given the call seven out to a player I am even with. We broke even after 4 sets.

I gave him the break only and never won a set!

also, when getting weight it makes you play different by looking for alternate ways to win besides running out which can screw up your normal game. On the flip side, giving weight gives you a feeling of superiority right or wrong, and makes you bear down to get out knowing you really can't miss.

on that subject, I have given players better than me weight and beaten them, proving that among good players weight in 9ball CAN SOMETIMES mean nothing.............or EVERYTHING from a psychological stand point.

The break is the nuts, against almost anyone below pro level, if you can break fairly well and play a lick.

Not to hijack your thread, but how about the last 3 or the call 8 in 10 ball, or the last 2 & the break vs the call 9 in 10 ball? It's often said that the break in 10 ball is virtually giving up nothing. That extra ball makes the game a whole lot different, in so many ways.

handicapping 9 ball is dependent on the speed of the players, and other variables, if I get the breaks from someone-I break so bad its like giving up weight, the break for other players is gold. Handicapping 9B is all over the place there are no set rules-it really depends on the 2 players, now if a line between 2 players is found then the action is good, its an easy hustle but not a easy handicap.

one pocket is the gambling game because it can be handicapped more accurately, thats why you will see bigger action more often than 9B.

Here's what I'll do........

i respect your balls, your exactly what pool needs more of, guys who are willing to play not knowing if they have the best of it, hell you can awalys fire a barrel or 3 and stop if your getting beat ot renegoiate either way, but it gets a game started, pool needs that, my respect to you!!!!

i cant give asnyone right now 2 $$$ balls, i have been playing my friend from UCLA he is the best where ever he plays there, he is a D+ player, I give him the 5 and win more games than I lose but I doubt I could give him the 5-8, I sure dont want to give him thr 7out, i'm not running out enough I can duck around the orange ball enough to win. but 2 $$$ balls I'm in trouble, i'll try it once and see what happens. we dont gamble he is too good of a friend. i'll report back after i play him like that, in a month i just got to germany i'm gouing to play alot here

I'd rather have the Break + 7ball.

Because even if I lose the game, I still get the break and the chance to win the game again. If I dont have the breaks, and lose, the guy might run a few racks on me.
