weird stains on my pool cue

That really sucks! Another thing to worry about....

I'm thinking it is the case too. To test this theory I would suggest to take a damp cloth and wipe the interior to see if dye is coming off of it.

Hi all,
I've been a way from the game and this lovely forum for years but I'm doing a comeback...
I have a bunch of cues that I haven't touched in years and I took them all out to check them.
I have this Sugartree SP that I've noticed these stains on it's shafts and butt that I can't seem to be able to remove them. I've tried alcohol, acetone, general wipes.
The cue is stored in a Sterling 4X8 case (JB design) that is fully loaded and non of the other butts or shafts show these stains.
it's not from playing with the cue, one shaft is unplayed and with the other shaft I played 2-3 sessions when I got it. It even looks like it's under the finish...
Any idea how to clean it without damaging the cue?

The dye obviously came from the case (based on the evidence/story provided). "Why" is the question. It isn't that the dye just magically transferred to one cue, it isn't likely because of a bit of atmospheric dampness. I really expect that it was something that was put on the cue as a cleaner or polish that leached the dye. Waxes, silicone, oils, solvents all have the ability to leach dye. The OP put acetone (!!) on his cue--which is close to the worst substance a normal person will have on hand for finishes. If he did that, what about all the other things he is willing to put on a cue?

I put nothing on the cue!! I know how to take care of my cues...
I won this cue in one of the raffles we used to have here many years ago (about 15 years), I shot with it a few times and into the case it went and hasn't come out in about 10 years if not more, same goes to the other cues in that case.
As nothing seamed to be able to clean it, I've tried some acetone as last resort and only tested it on a small area, didn't work either.
Why this happened is a great question..
Why only this cue? well it apears that it happened also to the butt cap of my Tim Scruggs cue... that butt cap is not smooth so my guess that the dye found its way into the pours of it. The finish on the Sugartree is smooth but maybe not completely seald on a microscopic level.
I've tried to wipe the interior of the case with alcohol wipes to see if some dye comes off, it didn't
When this case came out, it was all about the new interior design by John Barton and it should have been a good choise for storing cues. I guess quality control was not that great. Mybe Sugartree finish is not that great either...
I took all the cues out of this case and I'm actually in the market for a replacement case that is good and safe for long storing of cues, I have too many of them and most of them hardly see any table time. Any recommendations?

Finally was able to get it cleaned... Used magic eraser with alcohol (before I've tried separately)

I buy the knockoff magic eraser sheets on amazon, cut them in have and keep 6 or so halves in my bag for light cleaning then finish with a q-wiz. For deeper cleaning alcohol or white gas works very well with the same sheets then, again, finish with a q-wiz...
