Well if he's a pool player, he must be drunk

Yes, it's a terrible tragedy that an old white guy got unfairly detained by police. If only our outrage were fairly distributed on this topic.

Maybe NOW we can have that conversation about how police often overstep their bounds, and basically have little effective oversight, to the extent that the populace is basically at their mercy.

But.. It is good to see the unjustified arrests spread around a bit, as far as race is concerned... Gives me hope.

.I never drunk when doing tournament play, IceTea , or Water was my choice. Cops use to stake out Pool Rooms, and Pool Bars looking for DUI Arrests. Many who play Pool over do it.

You just had to go woke. Couldn't control your racial impulses.
Whatever, dude. The simple truth of it is, that the dude's race gets him a lot of traction in this story. Nobody is making a young black guy the centerpiece of a local news piece, in the very same exact conditions. You like to use that word "woke", when I am simply bringing your attention to the fact that races get treated differently in America both in the moment when it comes to police, and during the aftermath of improper police behavior. I know you are stuck in this "Rah Rah Rah!!!!!! America is the bestest!!!!" mode of thinking, that doesn't allow you to think too deeply about stuff like this. The truth is.. It really isn't, when talking about certain issues.

This dude might actually get PAID. Zero chance a young black man gets paid in this exact same situation.

Just curious.. Do you see the Pennsylvania "kids for cash" scandal (where mostly ethnic kids were victimized by two judges) as a symptom of "woke" targeting? Or do you think there might be something wrong with the American justice system, where the most vulnerable members of our society are targeted to send them off to for-profit prisons, simply because they are less able to defend themselves adequately?

I don't know where this old white guy is getting the money to take this to federal court.... He either has it himself.. Or some entity is paying the bills. Do you think in either case, that would be a good investment if the victim was young and black? You think that jury is gonna pay them as much as this old white guy is likely to get? Or pay them AT ALL?

Things that make you go "Hmmmmm..."....

Assuming one is prone to thinking, and looking at deeper, often unpleasant aspects of our society, that is.... Definitely not gonna assume that, in your case.

Pool players come in all colors

Well Russ, if everything was exactly the same except the guy driving was black - and he made all the same choices - I think there would be 8,000 time the traction and outrage about this story and the guy would get much more money and support than the current guy.

America is by far the least racist country on earth. To everyone except white people. Whitey is the only person systemically racizm’d against and that’s a cold hard fact.

We need police, they have a tough and thankless lose/lose job these days, some are great some are terrible most are just normal guys making some money and they all have flaws like the guy with his drunk Pool player theory.

How does story traction vary for black on black crimes vs black on white crimes vs white on black crime?

Just curious. Did you see the list of people that Biden pardoned? The crooked judge in that "Kids for Cash" case was on the list:

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024/dec/14/kids-for-cash-judge-biden-pardon

I was very outraged at everything about that case. Outraged that Biden commuted his sentence as well.

What if he was an illegal alien, like from The Phoebus Nebulae, and undocumented, probably give him a free gas station , in the middle of nowhere.

How does story traction vary for black on black crimes vs black on white crimes vs white on black crime?
Black on Black crimes - Yawn
White on Black - Yawn
Black on White - Literally the end of the world as the news (and far right) knows it...

So you don't care that Biden pardoned him?
I hate all politicians equally, on both sides, both Democrats and Republicans. I just happen to hate a few far right policies more than I hate any specific politician. But I still hate some specific Democrat policies as well, such as the student loan takeover orchestrated by Obama. But I hate it for very specific economic/social reasons, not because of the letter behind the dude's name who rammed it through.

If you actually read my posts on NPR, instead of replaying some version of what you *think* my stances are inside your head... You'd know that. I have been quite vocal about it. There's been plenty of times people on the liberal side had to explicitly tell you guys you were barking up the wrong tree with that mindset with me.

No. It just highlights the sheer ridiculous charade of the 'free and fair democracy'
No.. It just highlights how folks on "your side" lump everyone who doesn't adhere rigidly to the full subset of your viewpoints, as all holding the same viewpoints. This is very much cult type thinking.

It IS actually possible to loathe every politician under the sun, D and R. While also loathing far right viewpoints.

But you guys don't get that, because you are very unnuanced "thinkers". You guys are, so far as I have seen.. Completely incapable of reexamining longheld beliefs to see if they still hold up under evidence, as well.
