Well guys, I've kept my new year's resolution so far and have played more 14.1 in the last week than I have over the last 7 months. It remains a mystery to me. For starters, my speed is no good. I just had my table reclothed with the 860 HR, and I like it a lot, but it's super fast compared to the old worn out rag I had been playing on. This has led me to over run shape numerous times. I'm figuring it out, but it will take time.

As to my progress (or regress - he he): I'm consistently running twenties and some thirties, but falling on the break ball adequately and consistently is my typical downfall. In short, my end games needs a lot of work. Also, I need to study the break shots. I did manage to get a 37 today with the balls wide open and naturally, I missed a duck to end it. I needed pinpoint shape for the next shot and tried to cheat the pocket...well, you guys know how it goes.

Anyway, 14.1 is really fun to play and I feel like it is reinvigorating my interest in practicing pool alone.

Cheers as always,

JL

Glad to see your doing practice runs Neil:-). I practiced before a 9 ball tournament yesterday for about 45 minutes before `the tournament and ran 37 also:-). The pkts were very tight which aren't the ideal condition for SP but the balls open good. I ended up splitting with a guy for first place in the 9 ball tournament. The cool part of the day was my buddy John Schmidt walked in and saw my semi-final match, and I was happy to play well while he watched the match. It's nice having him back in So. Cal....Good Luck with your future runs buddy!!!

Hello Mark and thanks as well. Man, your buddy is one fine player! What luck to have him around. Sounds like you're hittin' em pretty well yourself - congrats on the strong finish! Keep me up to date about your recent runs. This sub-forum is pretty much the only 14.1 related stimulus for me, as no one plays the game in my area. I do play one AZB'er regularly and we have started incorporating SP into our sparring, but both of us are novices at the art. What a fine and demanding game SP is. I really admire those who play it even competently.

Cheers as always,

Neil
