Well, they finally did it

Banned smoking in bars, casinos, pollhalls, etc. basically everywhere. I went to a poolhall where it's usually busy and it's dead as a [insert witty word] But i guesse it can go either way good and bad thing. I think it's really good for the non-smokers but a problem with the smokers. Even when i didn't even smoke i thought it would be sillly to ban smoking in places where it's known for smoky atmosphere. Now i don't know if poolhalls will ever be as busy as it was before.I guesse this would change the image of pool for the good well at least in toronto.

When I moved from Cincinnati to Sacramento last year, I found the smoking ban in pool rooms somewhat annoying. But, the great weather provides a nice break outside during a match or tournament. I also found myself smoking less.

The law is not for the customers, but for the employees. Pool halls will have a place outside for the smokers. I suspect in Toronto, when it's -20 outside, smoking will be a problem.

I don't know about that. They tried not to long ago to pass the ban here in MS and it failed miserably. I would say 90% of the regulars here in the pool hall smoke. I don't smoke anymore. I will smoke one or two here and there, but I've managed to quit smoking and won't even buy a pack.

Here in Rochester, the smokers go out the side door. They mill around, leave ashes, ciggy butts, various papers and the container for whatever they were drinking. You can't take alcoholic beverages outside. Someone must police it (or ban it). It is one thing to say being outside in the winter is a problem. It is another when its -20, snowing and blowing. How about a thunderstorm with torrential downpours? We have as many overcast days as Seattle. A reasonable alternative would have been an "tent". The sides might open for "air". Thats illegal as well! Something about temporary structures. How about customers leaving without paying? Suddenly its a problem. Who is smoking and who is skipping out? Did someone really think about the consequences of the run up to banning smoking everywhere "public"? Just another minor problem facing Northeast business owners along with no economy and a lot of unemployment. Oh wait. The economy is humming along just fine and there is no unemployment. OK. Thats another story for a different thread.
