Was watching Accu-stats today of "Pretty Boy Floyd" and "Lots a Poppa" I have been out of the pool world for a while now. Heard "Lots a poppa died? Is Floyd still playing? Both these guys were characters if you ever got to see them play.

as far as I know Jimmy is still around but doesn't play competitively anymore. Although I'm sure anyone that could play as well as he could can still put them in the holes pretty good. Not sure who "lot's a poppa" was so can't help you there.

Lots a Poppa died some years back....5-7 yrs ago? Wow...haven't heard that name in a while! LOL.
I've been outta the scene for a while, as well. Last time I saw Pretty Boy Floyd was at the DCC about 3 years ago - ranting and raving like a lunatic in the action room...lol.

Lots a Poppa was heavy-set black man. He was cool, had a lot of character.
If you played him one-pocket, you'd have to keep track of your ball count! He'd take one of yours and put it on his side if you weren't paying attention! LOL. Dead serious.

Are you referring to Jimmy "Pretty Boy" Mataya?

I thought "Pretty Boy Floyd" was a gansta from the 40s-50s...

Last time I saw Lotsapoppa was about 15 years ago at Hawaiian Billiards on Manchester in South L.A. I wandered in there one night and he was holding court in a room full of brothers. I agreed to play him some for thirty a game with 8-7. He won every game.

But we had a good time with lots of laughs at my expense. I blew a buck fifty but had a blast that night. He was a monster of a man, well over 400 pounds, but he could sure play some One Hole. He banked real good and ducked the cue ball behind the pack with ease. I couldn't fade it.

Jimmy "Pretty Boy Floyd" Mataya is doing just fine back home in Lansing. He has a good thing going, and doesn't need to hustler pool anymore. Jimmy was a helluva player and gambler in his day, one of the best.
