Western Canadian Open

The Western Canadian Open was cancelled, I don't think it was getting as much support as it had hoped, also Great White Billiards..where the Open was to take place at has closed down :( The whole fiasco with the UPA certainly didn't help at all either...

Unfortunately, Great White has closed down. I hadn't been there for quite a while and would've liked to shoot there one last time as it's a beautiful pool hall...the biggest in Western Canada.

Hey Sniper, Have you ever been to the Cue-Club in Edmonton? 3 times the size as Great White was... However, I will agree with you on the quality of pool hall, good action and great tournys.I loved the place when I lived there. Do you ever go to Stix or the Hideout? Where are the good weeklys at now?

Hi Jay, I've never been to the cue-club in Edmonton but I will have to keep it in mind next time I'm up there. I've been to Stix a few times but played at Great White prodominently (sp?) Unfortunately I haven't been able to shoot much pool lately, as for good tournys around here Stix has a good 9ball tournament on Sundays, every Saturday there is a pretty good 8ball tourny at a place just off Centre Street but I forget the name of the bar (any help someone) There's a little place called Chalks billiards in the south end of the city that's OK, another place called Mikes family billiards, but the place to shoot in Calgary is DEFINITELY Stix.

Stix sucks. Do they even let the masters play in the Sunday tournament again? Last I was there they had kicked them all out and made the tournament a A level tourney with no top players at all. The only time anyone at all that can play is there is when there is a tournament. The Great White was no better, if there was not a tournament then the place was vacant of good players. The only pool hall in Calgary that ever housed the players and could be assured to have some in there at all times was the Black Wolf.

And the Cue Club in Edmonton was not 3 times as big as the Great White, once Paul bought out the upstairs space to the right and added all the bar boxes up there the place was quite huge. I have been to the Cue Club, it is probably about as big as the Great White after the addition. Nowhere near 3 times the size.

Best pool hall in Calgary to find a player when there is no tournament going on would probably be Jr's now. At least the owner can play good and gambles pretty large. Before I left that was always the best bet to find a game.
