So it was a typical monday night at my poolroom, a few regulars in here playing cheap sets and a few ball bangers in the room. Dennis Searing graced my poolroom tonight to hit some ball, its always a pleasure when hes here. Most of the regular players are in vegas for the acs tournament, so I figured it was gonna be a slow uneventful evening. Then walking up the sidewalk was a familier face with 2 friends, it was Justin Hall who has been here several times before, with Ronnie Weisman, and Roberto Gomez. So Ronnie matched up with local pro Richard Brompton for some 10 ball, and Juston and Roberto hung out and hit some balls. Justin, myself Randy Ball, and Fulton(aka squarehead) sat around catching up and telling stories about some games on the road, real interesting conversation. So at about 3am, Justin told me that Roberto will play some cheap sets, so I said why not, at least I can say I played him. So I jump out to a 2-0 lead the first set in a race to 7, then I had the joy of watching him win the next 12 games straight, with several break and runs, and lots of amazing shots. I will tell you this, my racking skills improved while playing him. After I let him beat me( I didnt want to show my speed the 1st night he was here, lol) I had him play the 9 ball ghost for cheap money one rack to put my donation to a even amount. after a terrible break and him saying theres no way hes getting out, and Ronnie telling him to just shut up and play, he made some shots that seemed to test the laws of physics. and beat the ghost. After that he signed the 9 ball so I can add it to the others in my collection that I have donated to when they stopped by. Needless to say its 4:30am and they are still playing and im enjoying watching every shot of the match. All I can say its nights like this for me that makes the 15 to 18 hour days I put in here in this dismal economy worth it. On the days and night I sit and wonder why I ever decided to open a poolroom, this is the reason, the love of the game that my father instilled in me at a young age, the thrill of the action whether being in it, setting it up or just watching, and the memories and stories ill have to pass on and remember, sorry about the long post, but this has been a very enjoyable night.
