What Can Be Done To Improve The Derby City Classic

OK, here is a thread where you can offer positive suggestions to improve the quality of the DCC experience.

Please make only one sincere suggestion per post.

My suggestion in this post is to make the tournament double elimination and get rid of the buy back.

This could help improve the scheduling which is far more than a serious inconvenience.

OTHER SUGGESTIONS????
One suggestion per post please..............(you might even put the gist of it in the title section of your post to make it easier to find)

I think the event is a great event and think a few things could be done to keep it going as a top event. I think Jay did an excellent job with the One Pocket Challenge and look forward to seeing it again next year..so definitely keep that event. I noticed that some of the vendors were disappointed about the amount of buyers that went to the DCC this year and I think that is because they didnt have the BCA there. Probably would be good to have them at the event again. As far as the facility, rumor is that the hotel will be taken over by one of the larger hotel chains, so wondering how that will effect the event.

Joey... either I was really drunk, or umm.... ok I was... we were... me and easy-e... both probably drunk... it's possible I may be drunk currently... but everything you were saying had a sexual undertone to it! It was hilarious though at the time.

As far as improving the Derby City... they could always get the Techno Viking to do an appearance. See signature... click image... it'll change your life!

That Lebanese guy Bob Basha kept bringing me beer whose name I couldn't spell or pronounce and I know I was drunk. When I would complain he would bring me some domestic beer but by then I didn't care. You guys were catching up though. :D

You military guys don't see the ladies too often so I suspect you may hear what you want to hear. :D :D :D

I'm still waiting for those other beers Russ and I won. What was it, like 6 beers that you and Easy-e owe us?

OK, OK, OK. I confess: I was messin' with you and Easy-e but only a little, just like now. :)

Best Regards,
JoeyA

Derby City Draw

I wholeheartly disagree with making the Derby City a double elimination draw tournament. I currently like the idea of buying back as being my choice or not after I lose a match. I suggest strongly that we use one ball eddies (www.pooltournamentmanager.com) This invention will allow the
tournament to proceed in an organized manner, allowing draws and matches to be played in a timely manner.

Buyback Rate

I'm sure I am missing something...but it seems to me that scheduling has been complicated far more by fact that tables/players dedicated to 1 hole, for example, can't be playing in 9 ball at the same time.

Whenever I've asked about when the next 9 ball draw is going to be, I am told that they have to wait for tables/players to free up from the 1 hole tournament.

Players are asked to exercise their buy back option promptly after a defeat and MUST do so before the next draw.

As noted above, the next draw cannot take place until those entered in 1 pocket have concluded whatever match they are in so I just don't see how the buy back option is the bottleneck...but again, I may well be missing something.

In the meantime, I would imagine that numerous players enter for the thrill of it and for the memories. Many of those wouldn't enter at all if they had to pay a higher rate for double elimination up front.

Some might make the case that "good riddance" let the bangers stay home but it is important for tournaments to turn a profit for the promoters..or their wouldn't be any tournaments so we have to be careful what they wish for along those lines.

Certainly Diamond has data on what percentage of 1 loss players exercise their buy back option that they might want to share here.

Regards,
Jim

In the 2008 Bank Pool tournament 456 players played in the first round and 334 played in round 2. Therefore 54% of the 1st round losers did not buy back in. This attrition rate falls off rapidly in later rounds.

It took about 820 matches to get down to one winner. In a double elimination tournament a field of 456 requires 910 matches.

Lots of midgets and silly string.
