what can you advise on cloth?

I like Simonis 860HR. I use it a lot of the tables I cover. It's a bit faster than 860 and good and durable.

Mostly for price point. I have to find somebody to shorten the jaws, wrap my rails, do the 3 piece slate and install all of it. I'm not too happy with the idea of blowing a grand on the table before I buy balls and get the room laid with carpet and set up.

My advice...don't sell yourself short. If you want something the quality of Simonis, scratch together the coin for Simonis.

If you sacrifice quality to save a little money, you probably won't be happy with the results.

Josh installed my Diamond pro and used blue Simonis 860 HR and it is worth the money to me. Plays like a dream, very fast but makes you really focus on how hard to shoot because the cue can get out of line very easy. I think the cloth will have such a long life that it will offset the cost.

I appreciate the input Mr Stanley. I think I knew all along, just too stubborn to realize it lol

I would spend the extra money on the Simonis. I just had Josh recut my subrails and install Artemis cushions on my early Gold Crown. My table was in real nice condition, never been in a pool hall, only had felt replaced on it once since new. I was really worried that I was not going to see a large increase in the speed of the table cause the original Monarch Super Speeds felt pretty nice to me. I could not have been more wrong. Josh did an incredible job on the rails for me, table plays like a dream. Just finished it up last weekend with Simonis 860.

I agree with the suggestion of getting Simonis cloth. I just had Simonis 860 Tournament Blue put on my table at home and WOW what a difference in playability. The english takes much better than it did on my old cloth, the balls roll faster and don't have any extra movement at the end of each shot that my old cloth had.

Set up

I fought with the exact same scenario last year, did it in segments. Had rails redone tightened and Artemis rubber installed. Cloth is 860HR (it doesn't slide like regular 860). Get what will make you happy because it sucks to to keep telling your self I should have done this or that. Spend a little extra time and money to be happy.

Gorina

I just purcahsed some Gorina - Granito 2000 cloth for my tables. I did my home work before choosing and everything I read pointed to a very high quality cloth. It's always an opinion which is better, Simonis or Gorina. Bottom line, it's difenatley not an inferior cloth. Granito has ben around a very long time and it plays alot faster than Simonis. It's also less expensive. Meullers carries it and shipps out quick. I recieved mine in less than a week.

You can also do a search on Granito cloth in this forum and read quite a bit about it. The only down side I've read about it is, it plays to fast for some players likes. It may just be the cloth for you if thats what you're looking for.

Speed

IMO just get Simonis.

Obviously speed is very important in position play. So here is something to consider and wouldn't mind hearing opinions on this. It seems to me that cloth like Championship Tour Edition 3030 which I have had experience with is fast and gets faster over time. I notice that in pool halls using this and maybe others that it gets out of control when the cloth has a sheen to the surface. Like ironing a piece of cloth a million times the balls are working to wear or flatten the threads out. Those threads control speed and as they flatten out the cloth gets faster. I never really know what cloth places around me are using because most of them will say it is Simonis and I can tell it is not.

Is Simonis more consistent with regards to speed over time?

Cloth

If your going to wash cloth simonis... I suggest you hand wash it...
I used some lightly used simonis cloth on to recover chairs in man caves and several other applications, many guys use cloth in their art workings and case making.

I hang used cloth on a clothes line and blast it with 100psi compressed air nozzel to get the chalk dust out, then beat the cloth like a rug to get more dust out..
Once I think I got all the chalk dust out I could, I will hand wash in a sink with mixture of wool lite oxy, dish soap and PERT plus shampoo with room temp water..
Once the cloth is washed it needs to be dryed> if your plan is to use the cloth on a pool table the cloth will need to be free of all moisture before installation./ make sure you wring the cloth really good before its set to air dry. If on a clothes line do not use clothes pins to hang it' lay it over the line and move it around as it dries. Last time I just put the cloth flat on the lawn and flipping it every so often till dry or dry enough to fold it over the line to complete air drying on the clothes line and with fresh air.
Best of luck.
If anyone needs simonis,30/30 or simulator cloth for a project feel free to contact me for a shipped price.
Thank you
