What changes have happened to pool in the last decade?

I’ve been recommended by friends to try Taom/Predator hard chalk for $20 a piece, because it doesn’t create as much of a mess as Masters chalk, which is what I’ve only ever used. I bought a single piece and I’ll try it. I just hope I don’t lose it.
That’s exactly why I tell players Pagulayan Chalk, which is really TAOM V10 or equivalent since it is TAOM, is the best.
It doesn’t run away & hide if you drop it like the round shape version & feels more natural to apply because of its shape.

Yup……but why bother……..it is the same chalk…….or at least it does the identical thing as V10…….and you don’t
require a chalk holder either unless that’s your thing. But change is hard for some players because they form habits.

I use fancy chalk and they are shit to be honest. The selling point is that it doesn't get flaky and make a mess. That's true but you still have to constantly chalk.

One of their selling points and I bought into it was that you hardly need to chalk. You leave it at your seat and come back to chalk.

I started chalking after every shot again and my miscues seldom occurs. I use to fly the cue ball off the table, on average, 3 times a day.

and pags chalk is advertised as being a formula for him
JMHO
the holder is no big deal for me
you like pags chalk
i like taom
i cant pick dessert for you either....🍦🍨🎂🧁🍰🍪🥠

All I know is I’ve used V10 for over a year and Pagulayan chalk for most of this year.

It is made by TAOM, looks like V10, applies to a tip like V10 and performs like V10.

They could have branded it TAOM V11 for all I care. The shape just makes it better.

It's the damn price and its been 6 months. I should have forgotten the cost and just use the shit out of it.

1) Matchroom effort.

2) Size pockets, smaller, tight and harder, to me is a huge difference from those pits used before.

3) Social media, nowadays even top players interact with any one at facebook for example.

Tight pockets is a requirment.

I play on 4.25'' or smaller. That's my pool hall for you. They are thinking about making them bigger for the customers.

I started playing pool in 2001, then in 2002 I started my pool organization www.christianpoolplayers.com (CPPA) which was going quite well, but then it almost fizzled out in 2010's. Also during that time while I still loved pool I pretty much stopped playing. Then I played one season of league in 2018 (can't say I enjoyed it). But in 2020 I got an 9' old table for my new man cave. Played a little on it every month. But in past couple years CPPA has had a growth explosion :).
Now I've starting to showing up at pool halls and playing a little. Just this month I started playing in a league for first time since 2018 and enjoying it. Hopefully tournaments by 2026 (I'll be 66 years old - I guess I'm a senior). So that brings me to my question. "What changes have happened to pool in the last decade?".
A few things I have noticed:
1. Carbon Fiber cues are popular.
2. Extenders to make your cue longer.
3. Lots of pool playing on YouTube.
4. A lot of new generation players that are quite good.

What are some other things that have changed in pool. Hopefully we can keep it positive.

Thanks in advance for your input.
Jim
In the last decade CF became popular, gloves are now the norm (not for me).

Taom V10 chalk came out. It's super clean, good stuff and a roll (or cube if buying the Pagulayan one) lasts over a year.

This new expensive chalk was a surprise to me. No verdict yet on that.
Once I tried it, I don't use Master any more. I have a table at home and shoot about 4 hours per week and play league 1/week. They are not exaggerating when they say it lasts a year. Also, you can play 4 hours and your hands are not discolored by the chalk...not to mention the table stays cleaner. I use G2 soft. I don't like the Predator chalk at all. Taom would be my second favorite.

We have had 4 new pool halls open in the Jackson MS area in the past year. Two other rooms have replaced all of their tables with Diamond. Tournaments every weekend and I think most or all of the halls have League. The vast majority of leagues are APA. We play BCA at my spot.
Pool is definitely making a comeback in central MS.
