What cue would you recommend for a true beginner?

Heres the sort of bargain you can find on ebay..

A Peradon Windsor cue. New it's around £130 - £140. I saw this one on ebay with the auction ending around 11 am ish and instantly knew it'd go cheap as few are looking around that time.
The seller was only a 20 minuite drive away from me so i asked if i won it could i go round and collect which he was happy with so i put in my maximum bid of £55 with 4 seconds to go and got it for £46 :D

Got there and it looked crap but it was only crap on the surface so to speak. Peradon lacquer their cues and there were plently of little knocks and dents showing in the butt, the shaft had been sanded but not oiled and was dryer than the sahara, the tip was a 9.5mm not a 10 (luckily as i find 10 too big) and the butt end was missing the leather pad.

Got it home , sanded it down completely while i watched a couple of episodes of Star Treck oiled it and then over the next few days oiled and fine sanded it a few times. (10 mins each time wet n dry then them micro papers which are are brill) Glued on and shaped a leather pad (a womans heel- got me a bagful of them from my uncle whose a retired cobbler) 0000 grade wire wool on the brass and it looks brand new only better as it now feels as good as a cue possibly can.

£50 all in and a couple of hours of the easiest work there is for a cue that i could go back to the seller with and sell it him back for £80 easily.

What i'm tempted to do is rebadge it with a custom brass badge( £3) stick it on ebay for £250 and say i think it was made by Parris. Some muppet would buy it, a Parris collector wouldn't though, he notice the quality is too good for a Parris. :D
